Guys that think they are pro's
|
So, Saturday afternoon (man was it hot) my wife and I went to play Red Wolf Golf Resort northeast of Houston in Huffman. We were on the third hole, a par three, finished play and walked to our cart. I was putting my club in my bag when I glanced back to the tee and saw the guy behind us (a single) start his swing. I hollered at him "DON'T SWING THAT CLUB." He did stop his swing and we drove off. I should point out that we were even with the flag distance wise and to the right (the slice side for a right hander) about 10 or 15 paces.

Why so much dislike for Ian Poulter?
|
I am surprised by the venom I see being expressed against Ian Poulter. What is going on with Poulter. I am a big time golf fan and follow all the tours. I religiously watch golf tournaments and a lot of the shows on the golf channel. I have never seen Ian Poulter do or say anything that deserves the venom I am seeing against him. Every time I have seen him on a show, he has been polite and very entertaining. I have never seen him do or say anything negative against another player. He has never been arrogant that I've seen. Yes, he exudes confidence. but if he didn't, he wouldn't last long on tour. Professional golfers play at such a level that they look to focus every fiber of their skills, ability and mind on scoring as low as possible. That's why they seek out sports psychologists. They learn to never think negative and never consider that anyone else can beat them or is better than themselves. They also have to tread a fine line between that confidence and not offend anyone, especially a fan. Apparently Poulter did or said something that I am unaware of.

Playing golf with my wife now that the kids are gone.
Posted by gsollars 10/11/2010 9:09:04 AM

So, my wife has finally decided to take up golf. She has begun to go with me to play and I like that she wants to play. I'd rather she be with me playing than at home waiting for me to get done. Anyway, this past weekend she was driving me crazy with her complaining about her inability to hit a decent shot. I try to encourage her and tell her constantly she should only expect to hit the occasional good shot. She has never had any lessons nor been on a golfing trip to a golf school with me and so she should have very low expectations.

Don't Pro's Read or Make Themselves Aware of the Rules???
|
Here we go again. So Saturday, Julie Inkster was waiting on the tee to play a hole while there was a backup on a par-5. After waiting about 30 minutes, she apparently became a little stiff and decided to loosen up by swinging a club. She attached a weighted donut to her club while swinging which is against the rules. Rule 14.3 specifically prohibits you from using any artificial device that might assist you in making a stroke. The weighted donut was a violation of rule 14.3, the penalty for which is disqualification. The officials looked at the video, did see the weighted donut and decided to ask Julie Inkster about the incident when she completed her round. (She was on hole 17 when the officials were notified by an email and decided to let her complete her round.) After her round, she was asked about the incident and freely admitted that had indeed used a weighted donut and apparently was unaware of the rule. Or maybe she simply forgot about the rule. The upshot is that she was disqualified. This ruling was very unfortunate for Julie because at the time she was eight under par and within one or two strokes of the lead. Once again, we have a professional golfer that was not aware enough of the rules of golf.

Playing with a poor sport.
|
So today I tried playing a round of golf but had to give up. I was playing with a friend with whom I have played for years. He is a perfectionist with absolutely no reason to be. He was apparently playing reasonably well when his wife commented on how well he was playing. He then proceeded to self-destruct. Suddenly he couldn't hit a ball to save his life. He hit fat ones, thin ones, chunked his tee shots; he just lost his swing. I started out playing poorly myslef for the first three holes and was trying to find my swing. I wasn't happy with my play but I was trying to enjoy my golf time regardless of how I was playing. I find it a challenge to "right the ship" when you lose your swing.

Can't Michelle Wie utter a coherent sentence?

Does it bother anyone else that Michelle Wie cannot talk without saying "you know" every three seconds? She can't complete a coherent thought whenever she does an interview. It amazes me that one of her "handlers"...
