Does it bother anyone else that Michelle Wie cannot talk without saying "you know" every three seconds? She can't complete a coherent thought whenever she does an interview. It amazes me that one of her "handlers" has not taken her aside and suggested that she learn to talk. It is depressing to listen to her do an interview. I wonder if "Stanford" is proud of one of their "best and brightest" making a fool of herself every single time she speaks on camera. Oftentimes she responds with an answer to a question that wasn't even asked. I think it is sad that someone has had the benefit of 12-16 years of education and can barely talk. The last few years have been at one of the best schools in the country. Sad.

5/27/2010 6:06:36 PM As far as Wie is concerned, It feels to me like she is simply spazzing out knowing that she is on national television. I agree that it would be pudent for someone in her camp to set aside time to practice speaking enough to do so with improved elocution and, at least perceived, comfort. Professional athletes become "brands" as well as the livelihood of many who manage their non sports related business ventures and endorsements. What company wants to shell out the major geeters to become a sponsor to someone who represents them by sounding like a dim wit bubble gum booby. As for Tiger, he's simply a control freak. It doesn't really mater what you ask him. He's already prepared his statement and practiced in front of the mirror right down the his parting, "you got it" as he walks of to the scoring tent. Now Jordan Speith did impress me. He looked comfortable with himself and his surroundings, he spoke well and with meaning, and he had some freakin' manners! You'd just be proud of him if he was your kid, ya know? |

5/22/2010 11:33:25 PM So, did anybody hear the interview that was done with the 16-year old Jordan Spieth, at the Byron Nelson tournament after his third round 67? Unlike Michelle Wie, he could actually carry on an intelligent conversation. He spoke well, talked on-point about what he was asked and did NOT say "you know" 33 times in a one minute interview. And he's a high school kid that has not had the benefit of several years of a vaunted "Stanford Education." He's an amazing talent considering how young he is. I wonder when he will turn pro? Hopefully he goes to college to get an education as a fall back and also to work on his game and his maturity. I forget the name of a previous high school male golfer that turmed pro in high school and has been a disappointment. He missed out on the benefits of college and being prepared to be a touring pro golfer. If anyone remembers his name please post it here. |

5/21/2010 8:12:25 PM Like that's kinda what you should like expect in today's world ya know? I really started paying attention to it in her Thursday Sybase interview and really started to see what you mean. Better than Dale Earnhardt Jr. taking a breath and saying uhm after every 4 words. |

5/18/2010 4:56:56 PM I think ...like...the short answer...ya know... is that she's an idiot. She has that far off stare no so unlike W Bush when she's asked a question. You can't just say she's young. Rory McIlroy is a great interview, mostly humble with a little bit of swagger and very confident speaking to the media. He sounds sharp. Hell, Natalie Gulbis sounds sharp next to Wie. Call me mean, but I happen to have the opinion that Michelle Wie is a very talented golfer that also happens to be a little bit dumb. Ya know? |

5/17/2010 5:21:21 PM How much time do you actually think she attended class. She has been spoiled and pampered her whole life. She doesn't have to know how to answer questions. Imagine in a few years when she is filing for bankruptcy because that "college education" taught her how to handle her own money. She hasn't had to do much for herself at any time. |

5/17/2010 2:47:36 PM Tiger answers questions that were never asked all the time. It is almost like he doesn't understand what they were really asking. Must be a Stanford thing. For example, he was asked "how do you reconcile your view of marriage with your behavior." He went into his thing about "Stripping away rationalization..." The interviewer than asked him the same question later hoping to get the right response, but got the same answer as before. I guess Tiger didn't realize that he was being asked about the difference between his view of marriage and the way he actually behaved in his. The question had nothing to do with reconciling his marriage. His answer should have been something like, "I know marriage is a sacred bond and that you should be faithful, but I just lost sight of that and was doing whatever I wanted. There is no way to reconcile what I know marriage is, and how I acted within mine." But he never understood what he was being asked. But hey these guys are being asked questions all the time, so they will make mistakes. |

5/17/2010 1:37:54 PM Public speaking is an acquired skill. Only a very few are really good at it and then it comes off as rehersed or phony. We should learn to accept atheletes for what they are, atheletes. Enjoy the sport! She has one of the most beautiful swings in golf today. Once she gets her distance control, rules and pressure play under control, she's gonna be tough to beat. Maybe by then, she'll be able to handle the camera better. Lee Iococa once said mastering public speaking was the most difficult challenge of his career and he ended up being one of the best at it. Same with James Earl Jones. I'll bet you've never had a camera shoved in front of your face and asked to respond with half the world watching. It just might change your perspective. |

5/16/2010 5:01:15 PM Her mannerisms are those of someone 5 years younger, but she is still a kid. It's going to take some time to get her own identity after being under the thumb of her father for all those years. He stunted her growth as a player too. you know |
