Ray Halbritter is the CEO of Nation Enterprises including Turning Stone Resort and Casino. Its the lead sponsor for the Turning Stone tour event (opposite the WGC Bridgestone at Firestone CC). He caused quite the stir by giving himself a sponsor's exemption into the event. He's 60 and says his handicap is down to a 2.

“I had a conversation with the people in charge â€" myself â€" and I got lucky and got approved to play,” Halbritter deadpanned, drawing laughter from the gathered media members. He then went on to explain how seriously hard he has worked to make his game respectable."

Is this power-thirsty CEO nuts or what? A 60-year old, 2 Handicapper, giving himself an exemption to his "own" tournament. He has some "Big Brass Cojones". Maybe Jerry Rice won't be the worst exemption ever granted.

Let's see how confident and proud of his "exemption " he is after the first few rounds. My guess is he might set a new record for over par in that tournament!!

If you're gonna do it you might as well do it in a low-tier event like this where not as many people will notice and with weaker players you can make yourself look like less of a fool. If Turning Stone was holding an event with the caliber like Bay Hill or the San Diego Open then he may think twice about letting himself play.

"Maybe Jerry Rice won't be the worst exemption ever granted." What's next Donald Trump getting an exemption to play ???

You only live once, he had the means, more power to him.

But that is exactly the problem This guys has a fortune and is playing just for the fun. His exemption takes a spot away from another player who may be struggling to make ends meet and this tournament is a good chance for a top showing due to the limited field of top ranking pros. Let him pay his way into a charity pro-am if he wants to play with the pros.

If he wanted to play this bad, he should have gone through Pre-Qualifying and/or Monday Qualifying. Prove to everybody that you deserve to play in this event, don't just give yourself a hand-out. The PGA Tour should NOT allow this kind of stuff to happen, and the Players' Commitee shouldn't be too thrilled either, this dude is basically taking a Tour players spot. Why? Because he has the power too, and he thinks "he's pretty good." I hope this guy misses the cut by 50 strokes.
