Just a rant:
For those of you that like to say "drive for show, putt for dough!" - I hope you watched the playoff at the Transitions Championship. When it came down to the wire, both Sang-Moon Bae and Furyk took themselves out of the playoff with their APPROACH shots, not with the putter. Garrigus took himself out with the putter, and Donald hit a brilliant approach AND a clutch putt. You drive for dough, hit into the greens for dough, get out of the sand for dough, chip for dough, it's seriously the dumbest expression in golf... |

Like I've said before, I still think "he's not afraid to go low" is the dumbest.

How about the dumbest interview in golf? Did anyone catch Steve Sands interviewing Ernie after his round?
Sands: "Ernie, what happened after your drive on 18?" Ernie: (After a three-second pause with a look of bewilderment on his face) "Well, I pulled my approach left. I had a bad lie, then I missed the putt." Sands: "Did you have the confidence to make that putt?" Ernie: (Pauses, then laughs) Of course. I just pulled it. Sands: "Thanks for your time." Ernie: (looking like he's never heard anyone ask such stupid questions in his life) "Sure" |

For me it's "get in the hole" when they are hitting their tee shot on anything but a Par 3 - even then it annoys me.

Ernie should have said What were you watching dumbass. |

GET IN THE HOLE. Those guys that yell that on any tee shot should be kicked out.

The dumbest expression is golf was the expression on Ernie Els' face when the reporter asked him if he had the confidence to make the final putt at the Transitions.
I would have made the same expression...as if to say..."DID YOU REALLY JUST ASK ME THAT?" |

Dandy, your observation is a good one. In my own experience, I would say that there are two parts to my game that got me from a 10 handicap to a 2:
1. Approach shots. 2. Chipping and other shots around the green. The importance of approach shots rarely gets the attention it deserves. |

Seriously, they use to teach them in journalism school not just to ask a question just to ask a question. |
