I was in Golf Town yesterday and saw the SLDR Tour models on for $179. 5 months ago, these were $550 (Canadian Monopoly dollars people). I absolutely detest TaylorMade and I'm thinking the pressure will be on the new CEO to lift the company's sales after they declared huge losses in retail sales. So I'm betting this problem gets worse before it gets better. Bottom line, don't buy anything TrailerMade brings out for at least 4-5 months and you'll pay almost 70% less.

New products to the market has been TM's philosophy for years. My guess is they already have the next 2 replacement drivers in place and ready to be released. You'll probably see them in the next 6-8 months. Callaway is pretty much the same. They'll keep on doing it till the stupid people keep buying into the hype.
And since every release touts hitting the ball 10 yards longer, shouldn't we all be hitting 500 yard drives at this point? |

I agree that the strategy has been the same, but the prices are getting lower and lower. A few cycles ago, the "old" driver would be marked down to 50-70% of the new drivers retail. Now it's 25-40%! The Stage 2 RBZ was $89!! |

I would only buy a new Taylormade Driver if they brought back the 2007 TP 9.5 degree head on a 2009 TP Matrix Ozik stiff shaft.

It's the same thing every year-Balls,drivers,irons and this year it seems shoes are ALL new and improved and WILL make you a better golfer. I do believe that golfers,in general, are getting smarter and that they are not running to the stores or ordering on line newer and improved golf equipment as in the past.Maybe the golf industry will finally start to keep prices down, bring out new advanced and better equipment every 3-5 years so that new folks and those that have left golf will all come back and play golf.If nothing is done, the golf industry is in for some very very trying years.

I'm 23 and have loved golf my whole life, but didn't start playing regularly until I finished high school. Luckily for me, my dad has played for 25 or 30 years, so I got my first set of nice Callaway Razr's for my birthday. Point being that if the game is going to continue in the fashion that it is now, most guys my age will just find something else to do that's less expensive. I also think it would help if the focus somehow shifted from getting new clubs every year, to maybe spending a little bit of that money on taking lessons. I'm a hypocrite, I've only taken one real lesson, but it helped it tremendously. Took me from an 18 handicap to a 12 almost overnight. If you want the younger generation's interest, make them better golfers |
