Just a rant:
For those of you that like to say "drive for show, putt for dough!" - I hope you watched the playoff at the Transitions Championship. When it came down to the wire, both Sang-Moon Bae and Furyk took themselves out of the playoff with their APPROACH shots, not with the putter.

Garrigus took himself out with the putter, and Donald hit a brilliant approach AND a clutch putt.

You drive for dough, hit into the greens for dough, get out of the sand for dough, chip for dough, it's seriously the dumbest expression in golf...

How about the dumbest interview in golf? Did anyone catch Steve Sands interviewing Ernie after his round?

Sands: "Ernie, what happened after your drive on 18?"

Ernie: (After a three-second pause with a look of bewilderment on his face)
"Well, I pulled my approach left. I had a bad lie, then I missed the
putt."

Sands: "Did you have the confidence to make that putt?"

Ernie: (Pauses, then laughs) Of course. I just pulled it.

Sands: "Thanks for your time."

Ernie: (looking like he's never heard anyone ask such stupid questions in his life) "Sure"

Ernie should have just walked away and left him standing there.

I heard someone yell "MASH POTATO!" on the tee box a while back when watching a tourny. Whatever the hell that has to do with golf is beyond me. I'd rather hear get in the hole than that.

That has become more of a sensation than anything else in golf. Check all these out.

Like I've said before, I still think "he's not afraid to go low" is the dumbest.

This actually does make some sense. What they are saying is he's not afraid to take the risks necessary to shoot a low round on a difficult course, but also could have a horrible round because of these risks. Others won't take those risks so they won't shoot a horrible round but also won't have the chance to "go low" (thus, they're "afraid" to go low).

Dandy, your observation is a good one. In my own experience, I would say that there are two parts to my game that got me from a 10 handicap to a 2:

1. Approach shots.

2. Chipping and other shots around the green.

The importance of approach shots rarely gets the attention it deserves.

Spot on Mark.

Usually my chipping is pretty good. I need a bigger putting grip to help take my hands out of it a little more. Very inconsistent there. I need to hit better approach shots when I do hit fairways. That is my #1 killer in the shot to shot basis.

That's a pretty dumb one too

Totally agree with this. "He can handle going low" or something that speaks to handling nerves well would be so much better.

Got a new one......................"The golf swing is like playing a guitar".

Jimi Hendrix must be a scratch golfer and Tiger can play Purple Haze blind folded behind his back.

Most amateurs ARE afraid to go low. I have seen so many shoot 35 on the front and 44 on the back. It's because the brain is not in a comfort zone being under par. It takes time and practice. The first time I had a 2 footer for 69 (when I was a golfer. I beat the ball now) I was shaking and only playing with my brother in law and our wives.
