My season looks to be all but over. Time for one of these.

1. Best score

2. Best shot

3. Your handicap vs last year

4. Things you learned

1. 87, and I did it 4 times including the first round of the season.

2. 2nd shot on the par 3 8th. Tee shot was bladed and pushed to end up 40 yds to the right of the green. I pitched out of deep rough, over a line of trees back onto a hilly green to 18 inches from the hole to save par.

3. I think this time last year I was a 19.8...I finished 19.3 this year because I went through a bit of a slump for my last 8 rounds.

4. I learned lots of stuff this year. As far as I'm concerned, Titleist makes the best driver. I started the season with an R1 (didn't like it), moved on to a Cobra bio cell (hated it), and ended back where I was last year with a Titleist. Winn Dri-tac grips wear out too quickly. I will probably never hit a 3 wood consistently. And lastly, I love playing the short game. It's by far and away where I want it to be, but I no longer fear it.

Best Score : 75, Shot at Town and Country Golf Links. http://www.ushandicap.com/golf.. which was 1 shot better than my previous best at Moccasin Run with dad on Father's Day 3 months earlier http://www.ushandicap.com/golf..

Best Shot: Can't even remember where but it was a chip in from about 60 yards, 1 bounce and in the hole for birdie.

Handicap: 8.9 vs 11.4 last year. Was as low as 8.4 and I still don't feel I'm worthy of single digits. Just a bunch of good scores that will eventually drop off.

Things I Learned: Jay helped me out with hitting "straighter" but I need lessons if I am ever going to hit "straight" or draw the ball. I also learned that my shots are getting shorter on an annual basis. I also need to live with the fact that my first few rounds out of the gate in the Spring are going to be horrid. I was at the point of giving up completely but some of you talked me off the ledge.

1. Shot a 62 this summer which ties my best ever.
2. My best shot of the year was probably in the Two Man Best Ball tournament that we won a few months ago. I hit my approach shot on our 3 hole a little long and left and it ended up in a small ditch. I hit a high soft flop that landed just above the hole and rolled straight in for an eagle.
3. I don't keep a valid hdcp but I feel my game has got a little better over the last year.
4. Standard grips don't work for me! My hands are just too big.

I wouldn't say my season's over quite yet, but it's not looking like things will end up any differently than when where they are now.

Best score: 77 at my home course in Colorado, South Suburban, twice. Differential of 5.6.

Best shot: There's nothing that stands out right away. I didn't have any lengthy hole outs, and the shots I stuck to within a couple feet just aren't overly memorable. I'm going to go with a shot that actually ended up 25 feet from the hole. Playing Fossil Trace for the first time, #14 is a long, uphill Par 3 where you can't see any of the green and just the top of the flag. Like I said, first time there, so I didn't really know what I was shooting at. Took a 5 wood, and I swear it was the purest golf shot I've ever hit. Perfect swing, perfect sound, exact trajectory I dream of, right on the pin, and I mean I nailed this thing. Why I can't do it every time I don't know. As I said, it ended up 25 feet away, and I ended up making the putt for birdie. Probably the best birdie I had all year.

Handicap: My handicap currently: 7.1, trending to be 7.4. My handicap at this time last year: 6.3, trended to 6.5 on Nov. 1st, 2013. Lowest handicap this year: 6.6. Lowest handicap last year: 5.8.

What I learned: That I've plateaued. I decided in September it was time to change my swing because I had reached a point with my game that I could not get past. I could play well, but not consistently and not as well as I want to (scratch level). I wasn't going to do that with where I was, and changing things up became my only hope of doing that. I'm learning this change is also going to take some time. I hope it'll be ready to kick some ass come next spring, but for the rest of this year, I accept I'm going to have to deal with growing pains.

Best part of 2014 was meeting and getting to know some mighty fine gentlemen from this site. Everything else seemed small in comparison. The only thing missing was not meeting a certain young college student who is getting used to being an easterner.

best score 86
best shot on a very difficult course I had never played. dog let right par 5. Pasted the longest drive of my life 273 and shaped it perfectly into the middle of the fairway around a corner of blocking trees. 3 wood to within 20 yards of the green, chipped to within 3 feet and sunk the putt for birdie, but that drive set it all up.
my handicap has gone way up from last year to 15.7 trending to 15.4, however it is not indicative of my game. Since my surgery two years ago next month I have had to work hard to get a golf game back. I have finally stabalized my game and my scores and beginning to creap back down on a steady pace rather than a herky jerky pace. Two years ago I was 12.7 so I have a ways to go but will get there and better.

My season never ends. The second I mention my best round or best shot, I will jinx myself out of a better one. My best golf of the year is yet to come. Enjoy the winter.

Although not my lowest score this year, it was certainly my lowest differential (4.6). After playing the Belfair courses in Hilton Head for more than 10 years, I finally broke 80 on one of them. The 79 included a ball in the water, and a double bogey on 18, but it was my BEST !

Best shot was into a par 3 at Forsgate this summer. Long (190), into the wind, elevated green . . . . launched a 3 wood, drew it back to th epin, and dropped it 4' in front of the cup. Yes, I made the birdie putt !

Didn't keep an official handicap last year, but I certainly wasn't single digits. This year has been a vast improvement with more rounds in the 70's.

I definitely learned that equipment upgrades do matter ! Fought it for 20 years, but couldn't have gotten to single digits this year without new clubs. Oh, and even after hitting your best drive of the day (290 down the middle) .... when playing with Jay .... he will teach you to be humble by blowing a 3 wood 20 yards past that ....
