Just curious, I saw a Titleist 392 and wondered what the 392 was. I found out that it represents the amount of dimples on the ball. How many dimples do your balls have, and what is the best dimple count to have on your balls?

On another note... I'm trying to hit into a Par 5 one time and fivesome in front of me would not move it along. I had to wait so long that eventually there were 3 groups on the same hole! I could've screamed... I mean... 3 groups. Has anyone had that ever happen to them???

We got stuck in a pile up at Tobacco Road today. There were 4 groups on #8 at one time. One on the green, us on the tee box and 2 groups waiting behind us. I didnt think that we would ever finish the front 9. Once we made the turn it was steady and smooth flowing.

Not sure about the dimple in a dimple thing but in high school I had a pimple in my dimple. Puberty was no fun, just ask CG.

Yeah, I hate that. Pimple on dimple. Now I have hair that grows everywhere but my head! I sit in the barber chair and say "take a little off the ears" and he doesn't realize that I really mean my ears! I have more hair growing on my ears than on my sideburns.

It sort of reminds me of playing with one of those 432 dimple balls. Remember those old Pro V 1s? I think they had 432 dimples.

With the cooler temperatures of fall I have noticed that although the number of dimples remains the same, the dimples appear smaller. I have also noticed the tendency of them being much closer to my body at address.

Dimples on the golf ball promote LIFT.
In general without going into aerodynamics the larger the dimple the more penetrating the ball flight would be and the smaller the simple ( more numbers ) will promote better lift in ball flight.

It really depend on the ball speed and the angle of inertia, which pattern and number of dimples worked better for you.
I like the larger deeper dimples on the golf ball cover.

I counted and believe there are 348 dimples on my golf balls, which are Nike 20XI's. Interestingly enough, half of them measure 0.4 millimeters, while the other half measure 0.5 millimeters.

I do believe the best number of dimples on your ball to have, however, is 356. With 356, you're eliminating any possible chance of the ball carrying too much driver spin (as would be the case with any ball with dimpleage greater than 357), but also maximizing distance without losing accuracy (balls with 355 dimples or less).

I remember when dimples were all the same size. In fact, I think the first tournament ball I played was called the "Titleist 392" way back in the dark ages (1989) before urethane covers when real men played wound balls.

Can you compare the Nike 20XI to either of the ProV1s?
