I live in MA and the weather is certainly changing here. It seems like nice fall days with temps in the 60's and 70's are gone. I am playing this saturday but the forcast is calling for temps around 50. That is going to be pretty chilly but as long as it is not too windy it should be ok. I played last saturday in similar conditions and it was not too bad. I think the key is to dress for the weather. As long as you are warm and not hit too many stingers you will have some fun. I wear thermal long underwear with khakis and long underwear top under golf shirt with fleece and hat. I try not to layer too much as to not be too restrictive. What do you guys wear? How cold is too cold for you to play golf?

Up here there is a group I play with that plays every saturday in the offseason as long as there is a course in MA open. I have played in 43 degree weather but I think that is pretty much as cold as I will play. It stinks that there are 4 months up here where you basically cant play golf due to weather. On the bright side there is skiing though.

What do you guys think?

I'll play pretty dang cold. I've showed up at the clubhouse and waited for the ice to melt off the greens before playing. I suppose probably the coldest I've played is around 32 degrees. Keep in mind, with the high wind and humidity here in Texas...that feels a LOT colder. But it sure beats not playing at all!

Been there done that. I can deal with the cold, no problem. But...if the wind gets up over 5 mph, and its 35 degrees, well, I'm staying in....

I try to hold the line at 40 or above. Having said that I have played with it much colder and try to get out at least once or twice a month during the "off" season.

Generally, 35 & up if it's a sunny no wind or rain day. When you add wind that jumps to about 47, wind and rain it jumps to about 55. I'm shopping for a Zero Restriction Rain suit (without taking out a second mortgage). One of those and some FJ WinterSof gloves??? Pretty much anything that allows the course to be open and you can count me in.

I've played in stupidity. Sprinkling rain and wind in 30s. Playing in that mess isn't fun.

I used to play in whatever the weather had for me. Now the biggest factor for me isn't comfort so much as how well can I swing in all the clothing I have to wear. If I have to wear so many layers that I can't swing, I won't play. I'm already not as flexible as I'd like to be. Five layers of clothing turns my swing into a constant knockdown shot. Again ... no fun.

Low 40's. It's more about wind and rain that would keep me off the course

I agree 100% Freaking wind is not kind in Texas

i know this is an old topic, but, i played the day after christmas here in Jacksonville, FL. It was 30 degrees or so with a wind chill factor of 18 degrees or so, 40mph wind gusts and it was sleeting on and off. It was awesome!!!

When the golf courses close. I'm looking at a pretty miserable day outside right now in Spokane, WA. Probably wouldn't choose to play right now even if the courses were open.

Hockey, used to play at Hyannis Golf Club for years through the winter. They were open if there was no snow and the temp. was above freezing. No more though. At Thanksgiving the ski racks go on the SUV and with the exception of one or two trips south, golf waits until April.

Two years ago in Vegas it was 33 degrees and rained the whole round except for a few snowflakes. It was a tournament and the course wouldn't refund our money because they weren't "closing" the course, so we played. Several cups on greens were under water.

This year had an 8:00 shotgun start in Nov here in Vegas delayed for 2 hours so a frost delay, greens were hard as concrete.
