Cracks in Ground from Heat

So some of the courses around here are getting so dry that the ground is cracking bad. There are cracks plenty large for a golf ball to easily fall into and these are areas that are in play - no OB or anything like that. So how would you play/score that? It hasn't happened to me yet this season but has happened to someone I was playing with. You could actually see the ball down in the crack but couldn't reach it to pull it out.

With as much drought as we've had I haven't run into this yet. Thats the cracks I have on my acreage. Interesting to have a rule for it.
