I have had a great swing over the past 6 months, and out of the blue, in the middle of a round this past weekend I start3ed slicing my driver. Something is wrong because I do not slice my irons. I currently am using the Callaway Big Bertha 460 driver, and at the bottom of the club head, you can see where the shaft was cut to fit flush. Well there is a little plug that fits into the shaft and mine came loose. So loos that it went back up into the shaft, where it began to rattle constantly. I took it to Golf Galaxy to have it pulled out and glued back in place, but when the guy did so, he cut the plug smaller.

My question is, by making the plug smaller, could that throw off the weight in my club head and there for causing my swing to be off balance? I am going to hit a few other drivers this weekend to see if it is just me or the club.

Anyone have any input?

Thats what I planned on doing. The guy at the golf shop told me I was crazy and that my swing has just changed.....I dont know how thats possible.

It could be many things, but the best possibility is that your swing HAS changed. I imagine that the amount of plug removed was more than likely less than an ounce in weight. While this could possibly be the cause it is highly unlikely.

As to your swing changing and not thinking it's possible, why do you think that Tiger has rounds where he can't find the fairway to save his life. They say golf is a game of inches but to be more accurate, it is a game of millimeters. You could have altered your swing plane by less than 1/4" or be lining up the ball 1/2" off from where you normally line it up.

I wouldn't run out and spend money on new equipment just yet. If you go to the range and work on your swing and just absolutely can't get it back, I recommend buying some adhesive lead tape and putting it on your driver. Try to add just enough to compensate for the amount of weight you believe to have lost from your "club surgery."

I have found myself slumping from time to time and the only way I have found to fix it is to grab the club I'm struggling with and hit it until I feel where the error in my swing is. Don't get frustrated and stick with it. You'll either find that your swing is off or that the little amount of weight removed is causing your problem.

Hope this helps.
