For some reason I cannot hit a club, the right way. I hold my clubs like a baseball bat and have been doing so since I started playing 3 years ago. I have tried to switch to the "proper grip" by placing my pinky finger between my upper middle and pointer finger, but cannot hit my clubs the same. I just feel that I can grip the clubs tigher and hit farther shots with the "baseball" grip. DOes anyone else have any adivce on how to correct this?

The ten finger grip was also validated by Harvey Penick.
I had always felt the ten finger grip would benefit those whom are younger, weaker, and having trouble with arthritis in their hands. The overlapping grips would benefit those with larger hands and then the interlocking grip best fitted those with smaller hands. But Harvey Penick said he thought everyone should try the ten finger grip and Jimmy Demaret said he'd love to change to a ten finger grip if it wasn't because he's already having a good career of playing with the overlapping grip. Change over a golf grip of a life time habit is a very difficult task. Tiger woods has medium large hands but he still uses the inter locking grip because he is used to it ever since he was young. Jack Nicklaus uses the inter locking grip I believe because he has very small hands. I had experimented with the ten finger grip and found it gave a little bit more snap but it'll take a lot of work to feel comfortable to change over from the overlapping grip I'm used to. |
