Hello all,
Just to give you some backround, I am 6'3 270lbs. I played offensive line in High School for a 2x stat championship team. I know weights and how to use them. 4 months ago I put up 330 on the bench press, but power is no good unless you can put it to work.

My question is:

Do you have any good tips on different works outs in the gym, that are golf related? I would imagine resistance training with the big rubber bands and flevibility workouts would be crucial, but I want your opnion.

I attached a picture just to give you an idea of my build. Picture was taken about 6 months ago.

KPaulhus,

You don't need strength training, in fact those muscle which helped you bench press 300 lb. is believe it or not, hinders your flexibility for a golf swing.
Let's not get into that area, for you right now, to not change much but to improve your golf game is to figure out a way for you to put the sweet spot of the golf club to the golf ball more often.
This could be accomplished by improving your eye hand coordination.
Try some of these drills and practice them for a few weeks before you give it a verdict. http://sportseyesite.com/dataS..

Thanks for the suggestion. I used to play goalie in ice hockey and my hand eye is pretty good, but anything that can make it better is appreciated.

Get a book called "Workout for Golf", it shows you differnent workouts for pre- season, during season and post- season workouts. The most important thing to remember no matter how much you workout, the thing you got to get correct is the nutrition aspect. You can workout like Tiger and eat like Daly you accomplished nothing.

For someone already has the power and being athletic, key swing thought is good contact and complete the follow through.
I'd bet you don't need to try to hit it a mile to be long.

Its funny, when I really slow down n focus on my swing plane, I can still outdrive my buddies.
