Just a suggestion for you about chipping/pitching mats. I found that all the ones you buy in stores have pretty thin foam backings on them. I had some extra exercise mat squares so decided to put them together under my chipping mat and it really improved the feel of hitting off it. Cheap and easy.

Mats will save your backyard grass but they do not give you any feedback when it comes to hitting the ball fat or thin. Ever notice how you almost never hit a bad shot on the range?

If I was in a nice soft fairway all the time this would be great, but rarely am I, lol. Think I need to go hit off of a ashpalt parking lot to get a true feel for my game. With the lack of rain and 100 degree temps around here, that would be better suited for my game I believe. Nice idea though with the backing.

Notice mine is not on the grass. That's the reason for the extra padding. You get LOTS of feedback from hitting it fat or thin from a mat. Fat, your arms ache from pounding into the ground, THIN, same as from grass, it goes a million miles further than intended. You still get the same effect with this padding.
