Any specific thoughts at address (e.g. emphasis on bending at the waist) that you've found helpful/key?

No joke, sticking my ass out as far as I can while keeping my knees bent is something I came across around a year ago, and I think it really helped. Just pretend there's someone standing behind you, and model your handsome side to them as best you can.

Just pretend there's someone standing behind you, and model your handsome side to them as best you can. You and I seem to have ended up in the same position, albeit with different self-talk. In my round today, I was focused on my initial move at address being a forward hip bend....not shlumping forward haphazardly and sans purposeful thought. In doing so, I kinda felt the "butt out" feeling as a byproduct. This non-golf video (from 1:40-2:15) really shows and verbalizes things well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.. Thoughts? To me, it's Adam Scott, who's always struck me as almost painfully geometric at address. |

I think to myself, "this is what I want to do"
http://youtu.be/fYeE-GIyn9Y And this is what it ends up looking like... http://youtu.be/sn5euJatYjs And the thing of it is, it never feels all that bad while it's happening. I don't need glasses, even I can see what it looks like on a video. This was from early last year, and I'm sure my swing is much improved from then, but I think that every year around this time and every September I'm convinced the Eagles are going to win the Superbowl... |

There are many different postures with many very good golfers. You have to start with what your body allows you to comfortably do. You can't force it. Having said that, I think no matter how you stand, you must keep your spine straight. Whether you stand upright like my hero, Freddy Couples, or bent like Keegan. When I was learning the game back in the 1970's, I read an illustration of how your spine should turn. It was compared to a barber's pole, running from the base of your skull to your waist. Stays straight, yet the torso, shoulders twist around it. I think that is correct no matter which position you start from.

WOW! There is a lot we could discuss here. I'll just add that balance is really underrated. I find it really helpful to pay attention to the weight under my feet; make sure it's centered front to back and 50/50 foot to foot. It's a check that can detect a lot of set up flaws.
