I'm hoping some of you have been to North Carolina and can offer recommendations. If I go to the US Open in June, I would fly into Raleigh and play a couple of nice public courses. If you've been there recently, please offer some courses I can consider. Thanks.

A lot of people, including myself, will be trying to do the same thing. My suggestions is stay a little off the beaten path of Southern Pines. Try playing Tobacco Road, which is 30 minutes away and try some others like Southern Pines Golf Club or Tot Hill Farms. Mid Pines and Pine Needles will be slammed and you need to fly below the radar. ANYTHING in that area is primo!

Agree with Tobacco Road, Tot Hill Farms and Southern Pines. Tobacco and Tot Hill are both Stranz designs. If you're looking to save some $ then go with Tot Hill. Very similar layouts but Tot Hill is the cheaper of the 2.

I am reading good things about the two university courses: Duke and UNC. Thoughts?

Duke is the better of the 2 and I tried to get on it the last time I was up that way and it was difficult. Not sure if was the timing of when I went, or just the standard protocol.

Tot Hill is over an hour from Raleigh but it is a great course.

I think that Jay, Vince and I are going to try to play some time that week. You would make a nice forth.
