Adjustable clubs a violation of the 14 club rule?

For thought and discussion...

Club makers are now introducing clubs that have adjustable lofts. A driver can be tweaked from 8.5 degrees loft to 12.5. How long before they start to introduce this concept to fairway woods? I'm sure in the next few years we will see fairway woods that can be adjusted from hard to soft, e.g., a 3-wood that can be adjusted down to 12 and up to 16. After fairway woods will we see irons that can be adjusted too?

Pretty soon on every tee box you'll see guys adjusting their lofts to maximize their shots. Talk about your delay of game??? The USGA and the R&A are trying to increase pace of play and get rounds back to four hours. This new development in club making is going to wreak havoc with that effort.

Also, there is something to be said for swinging a soft seven or hitting a hard eight. The player who can master these shots demonstrates a deft ability. With the advent of adjustable clubs - are we taking that out of the game forever? Is that an improvement?

They are legal so long as they are not adjusted during the course of a round. ROG 4-2a

Clubs may not be adjusted after the first stroke. Once the first tee off is struck It is considered a solid club.

Exactly. And there are adjustable 3 woods, just not quite to the extent of the drivers out there. Some years back someone created an iron that could adjust lofts from pitching wedge (45 degrees) to 3 Iron, (17 degrees). Didn't catch on though.

I thought the adjustable iron was gone. I was wrong. Here it is and it is more versatile than I thought.

Just about every golf OEM is making an adjustable wood. TM has the RBZ series woods.Titleist has the 910f, 913f and 913f-d. Cobra has the Amp Cell woods. Callaway has the Razr Fit and Razr Fit Extreme woods. I think that Cleveland is the only one without an adjustable fw wood.

Very interesting Pappy. Pretty cool actually. It would be interesting to see how it performs.

I have a Titleist 910H it is great. But like others said, you can't adjust mid round. So this is a none issue.

I have had a Divnick for years. When I'm traveling I always pack it for practicing putting and wedge shots. The shaft collapses which makes it very handy.

Okay, good for practice. Have you used it out on the course? Does it really work for different yardages and such? Looks rather interesting, but is it gimicky?

The club has a ratchet mechanism that allows the loft to be adjusted from putter to PW. I have tried it on the course with pretty good results from say an 8i-PW. I've also used it as a putter. Lower lofts like using it as a 4i for example did not bring me very consistent results but then I would have to say I didn't work at either.

My wife bought the club for me when I was going on a business trip to China. It served it's purpose by allowing me to practice puts & chips.

And yes I did change the loft on the course but was playing around, not playing a scoring round.
