I have two. An SKB hardcase but bulky and doesn't fit in many cars. And a BagBoy older model T10 a hybrid, hard top canvas body, which has held up well over the years. The other feature of the BagBoy is that it folds up within itself (at least the model I have), which is convenient after getting off the plane and transporting in the car.

I use an SKB and have never had a problem with it. It can take the baggage handlers rough work.

I'm also in the market and I was looking at that PING collapsable cover. Anybody use one before?

As someone who travels a lot, I can say that a soft sided travel bag is optimum to not exceed the 50 lb weight limit of checked bags. I had a hard case, but it weighed a it more than the soft case and kept me hovering around 50 lbs. Keep that in mind when purchasing.

A couple thoughts. I am a huge fan of the fabric padded Club Glove carriers. I trust them with my modern clubs and my hickory sets which are worth at least 10 times the value. The key to these bags is purchasing the umbrella style club protector which protects your clubs if they are dropped directly on their heads.

My last piece of advice. Purchase a unique colored bag. This way your bag is easily identified coming off the cargo carrier and so you know no one will accidentally walk off with your bag.

I still use an SKB. Unfortunately, baggage handling being what it is I have no confidence in anything other than a hard case. I've had individuals tell me they've had good luck with a soft case, but everytime I look at sites that offer user ratings I see reports of breakage. Until that changes, I'm staying with the hard case.

I also don't trust baggage handlers. Another vote of confidence for the SKB hard shell case

I also have both hard Samsonite case and soft Club Glove bag. I had the hard bag for a couple yrs and liked it but got the soft bag as a tourney prize last yr. Haven't used the hard bag since.

I run the Trav-A-Lite Ultima II. Its a travel bag and nothing else. Super light and extremely durable. You do get some strange looks at the airport though ;-)

I have the Ogio Straight-jacket and have traveled with it several times with no issues. As said before the key to the soft-sided bags is the umbrella style protectors ( they are sometimes called "Strong Arm"). You can get them for about 25 dollars and they make a big difference. I also pack some spare jackets around the clubs, if it during cool weather. Otherwise I use some bubble wrap just to be safe. It packs up nicely when not in use.

Good luck..

Ogio Straight jacket with the strong arm is what I use and it is great. It's about $130 and you will never have a problem. Hard cases are fine, but I got rid of mine because of weight issues. Never had a problem with the Ogio and my clubs travelled 70K miles last year with me. I know what I speak of. Over 50 lbs, means added baggage fees.... it adds up. Never paid a red cent extra and my clubs are in tip top shape.

I have a soft travel bag that I got through Golf Partners a number of years ago. No problems. I do put a wood dowl in the bag that extends beyond the longest club and I use bubble wrap around the top to further protect the clubs and keep them from moving very much. When my wife and I travel together we each pick 7 clubs and use day bags that easily fit withing the travel bag.
