Hey guys
I am thinking about buying a tablet to use for GPS, scoring, uploading rounds to UShandicap, music, etc.,... Does anyone have any advice as to what to get and or apps to use.

Thank you

Norm, you will love how easy it is to keep track of club events. Also, load Golfgame book onto it for your Jax events and it will give you real time leaderboards and keep track of handicaps. It's very cool.

Do you actually want to bring something the size of a tablet on the course? For GPS I'd stick with the handheld or smartphone.

Used my daughter's 7" tablet for a few rounds. Fine for a cart but not a great option if you're walking. You'll probably want one capable of 4G instead of wifi only. I'm a fan of Samsungs Galaxy line.
There are a ton of apps for golf gps out there. I'm currently using GolfPad. Easy to use, low battery drain, and after you upload your round, it overlays all your tracked shots over Google maps so you can see how you snap hooked your driver into the forest on 7,made an amazing recovery to just off the green, chipped to within 2 feet of the hole, and yipped the putt for your par save. Those are the moments you want to relive when you get home.

Golf use to be such a simple game. Hit the ball, find it, then hit it again till it went into the little hole. Why bring the office to the course as it will not help your swing.

I'm with you on this one for sure. I used to track every shot with iPhone + GolfShot which consumed a lot of time for me. I switched to a nice leather scorecard holder and a pencil + a range finder and my round time shrunk a bit.

To answer OP-

I like the iPad mini and personally wouldn't buy any mobile device that wasn't Apple, but in their infinite wisdom, no GPS is included without a Cell radio - WiFi only mini would be worthless on the course. If you are looking at the Android devices, I know Google made a Nexus 5 that had a built-in GPS for ~$200 or so, not sure what they have now.

I thought the scorecard and pencil was for keeping my score.
And yes I'm older, but haven't completely lost my mind yet.
I can still replay each and every shot in my mind up to a few days after I play. That's enough time for me to hit the range and work out the issues. Matter of fact I can still remember every shot I made when I shot the best round of my life two years ago. Every club I used and the exact spot I hit the shot from, and the putts I made. Don't need a $200 gizmo to help me remember a round of golf I'd rather forget!
