Check this out.... Fowler got one of the Augusta members all in a tizzy because he had his hat on backwards....

http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/b..

I know it's a private club, so they can set whatever rules they want, but come on.... Get over yourselves.....

I suppose he could have taken the hat off, but with that hair, his fondness for pink golf wear and the likely high rate of glaucoma among Augusta's members, someone might have mistaken him for a woman....Oh the horror!

I like the Masters but i think they need too stop being so high and mighty. Time has changed. This is not the old days.

Couldn't agree with you more. Funny to me how people (including myself) put the Masters and Augusta on such a pedestal...Yet this is a club that still will not permit women to become members.

I know they are a private club and all, but it is 2011 last time I checked and not 1911.

They need to get with times and let the golfers be themselves. That's what the people want to see. Not everyone on -course looking the same.

Heaven forbid Rickie has to wear a hat forward for 4 days, how oppressive.

i don't know. these are their rules and they are all about tradition. at Wimbledon you wear all white. if you go to a nice restaurant or event where a little more is expected then you go by their rules. it's not every week that this is expected but it didn't need to be made public. he could have been more discreet and this wouldn't be an issue and i'm sure Fowler understood, as petty as it seemed. Fowler has been incredibly respectful and is one of the promising, young Americans in golf and hopefully everyone realizes that and just chalks it up as carelessness and not him being disrespectful. it just should have been handled better by an uppity old member whose highlight of his day is scolding a long haired, colorful hooligan.

I'm with ya here.I understand about tradition and blah, blah, blah but for the longest time they would not allow black people on the course. Imagine if that was still true today? Times have change, besides, to me it's no worse the Jesper's hat bill flipped up or Poulter's crazy style. It's just who he is.

First, let me say, I agree with you. However, The Masters is the only major championship that is always played at the same venue. This is a championship with so much tradition, more so than the others. So, you've either got to abide by the rules they put in place, or find another spot (venue, sponsor, etc) to play.

I will say, that I don't think this is the way Bobby Jones would've wanted it.

B.S! Does this mean when I play in The Masters I can't war Loudmouth? I love The Masters and Augusta National, but this is my only issue with them. They are much too strict when it comes to the way people see this tournament and what they make OK and what not. Freedom of speech after all, if you want to wear your hat backwards then you can.

Stupid. Reminds me of having to have my hair cut just so so while attending conservative Christian college in the 70's. Wouldn't be surprised to find the PGA tour fine him or something if he happens to do it on course since they are so in bed with Augusta, they should be married. LOL.

Tradition is tradition..... The players fight to be able to play in this tourny and they do it because of what it is and how prestegious it is in the golfing world. It should be an honor for them to play the event and they know what they are suppose to do and how they are suppose to act during their time at Augusta. I have heard of players that respect the traditions at the Masters so much they hired a person to teach them what they can and cant do while on the grounds.

I couldn't agree more. It is, after all, an INVITATIONAL! It is up to the members of the club who they invite and how the tournament is run, period. The same way as it is your business who you invite to your house and what you are willing to put up with before you toss somebody out on their can.

What sets the Masters apart from every other tournament is the course and the atmosphere. Augusta National has shown that they will change when they want to and I for one applaud them for sticking to what their membership wants, not what the rest of the country wants. If you don't like the way they run their PRIVATE CLUB then I suggest you don't join it!

I don't get all the outcry either. If a person is so set in his ways and doesn't want to follow the rules he can always turn the invitation down. No one is forcing any of these guys to play there.

I don't understand why it is so hard to be a little formal for a week. I think as a society we are getting a little bit to casual. People often dress in a manner unsuitable to the situation, yes we get it, you are an individual, now please go put clothes that fit you properly not skin tight and not hanging off you like a trash bag.
