Course is holding up through day 1 but I think by the end there will be some holes that are nearly unplayable. There are already a ton of good shots that get penalized.

With a lot of work FOX could work its way up to awful. Buck and Norman are terrible together. Buck is just terrible. Camera angles terrible. Only show top 5 leader board (no scroll). They only briefly show the player info when they hit a shot but don't include distance or club selection.

Is it too late to get Johnny Miller?

I with you Shawn. I didn't get to see much yesterday, but what I did see I didn't like. I had the sound off so I can't comment on the announcing but I definitely hated the camera angles.

The USGA always wants a penal course, so they are not upset. They will get people to tune in just to see the course. The other thing that was a main goal was to have a US Open in the Pacific NW. It was a must. So they would have been at Bandon or Pumpkin Ridge. Would have been the same conversation. They push the envelop.

I love it. Totally opposite of Augusta National. Couldn't care less about the announcing team as the sound is usually down or off. It wouldn't be a US Open without players complaining about something.

I've been to 8 US Opens and I don't remember there being so much of a course where the spectators cannot see a hole being played. Some holes have almost no fans at all. 3 greens can't be seen at all. A couple players commented it was like playing a practice round at times.

The slow play has also been brutal to watch and Fox is not following enough players to be able to break away for shots when the feature group is held up. I watched nearly all of the coverage yesterday and I don't think I saw more than 25 golfers all day. Many of those whose shot under par never had one shot broadcast. Then we had to watch a group shoot +28. Like watching NASCAR for the wrecks.

Love the course...I have played it and it is pretty damn tough, but beautiful.

I got to watch about a half hour yesterday. From what I saw, I actually didn't think Norman was that bad, much to my surprise. Buck was as bad as I thought he would be. I hated him when I first started getting into football, but I've actually grown to like him so I hope over time he can do the same with golf. He's almost perfect for baseball though. Camera angles were less than ideal, but I didn't experience anything where the cameras lost the ball as I read so many complaints about.

My favorite Buck comment, "Tiger will be playing on the weekend, but it will most likely end tomorrow."

WHAT? To his credit Norman went radio silent after that comment.
I didn't mind Norman with the one exception when they made the comment that the college golfer was a business major and Norman says, "maybe I should hire him for my company."
Way to remind us Norman...we get it you have a golf business.

It looks like the camera operators are having a difficult time following the ball. Either the ball is incredibly hard to see on that course or Fox's lack of experience is showing.

I don't know if this is happening on the broadcast, but I'm streaming a featured group on my phone and there is quite a bit of quick camera shifting when it looks like they picked the wrong camera to make live.

Edit : Plugged in the phones for a few, heard this from one of the commentators:

"I'll finish my non-coherent thought" ain't that the truth. Here was another gem:

"They're coordinating the effort between the tee and green, taking by radio. I hope they are talking by radio"
These guys think viewers care about what they are thinking on how the marshall on the tee is coordinating with the guy on the green?

I can't really see the ball at all on the green. I've just been trusting the camera guy to have a bead on it. I'm starting to like what I'm seeing on the course, but it is hard to see what's going on. I think some or a lot of it is the patchy colors on the green/fairway thing the ball is moving over.

In the camera guys' defense, it doesn't help their cause that the course is brown. It's much harder to pick up a white ball in that colored grass than when it's lush green.

Ditto on not being able to see the ball. I thought there might be something wrong with my TV. I think it's because some of the greens are just not green...they've very pale, almost yellow.

They really messed up by giving Fox the show. Listening to the announcers is like listening to a baseball or football game and the announcers that I have heard know next to nothing about golf or even how to pronounce the players names.

"Coming up on the green Cammilo Veejaygus, some of these names are hard to pronounce."

That was an actual bleeping quote...embarrassing!!!
