Are you a line or spot putter? . . . or do you know? Tell us the story of how you discovered which you are and what happened?

I see the line on the green and pick a spot on the line to roll the ball over. Does that answer the question?

Definitely a line putter, all feel. I learned this about myself when I read an article on this exact topic. I like to just feel a line and roll it.

I like that approach due to only needing to consider distance while over the ball. |

Line first, then speed, no spot. Find a line I like, set my ball then just focus on the speed I need to hold the line.

Both....... I feel like I should clarify what I meant. There are two things I look for when reading a putt. First is where the fall-line is. I think Johnny Miller is the one who coined this term, but I always try and figure out where on the green gravity will take over and bring the ball to the hole. Then if I have a really big breaking putt, I focus more on getting the ball to one certain spot where a ridge will bring the ball down to the hole. |

Definitely a Line putter, I set my line and after that don't think about it anymore and try to focus on the speed. BTW this may not be that good because I'm a horrible putter.

Spot putter. I think a lot about the line, but in the end I hit for a spot/speed combo.

Definitely line, unless I have to go down a tier (think 3-5ft drop), coupled with a big curve, in which case I am focusing on the point I want the putt to reach (and the speed I want) before it goes on on its long, bendy and downhill journey...

I draw a red or orange line on my ball at the alignment aid on the ball. I use it to line up my putt, but I align on a spot that is my aim point for the putt. I then focus solely on the line and speed from there. I guess it's possible to do both, so I'll say Both. I also read each putt from behind the ball and behind the hole to find a spot and a line.

When I make a good put it is usually right on line to the spot I was aiming at.

I would think most people would be categorized as both. Even a "spot" putter first needs to find the line then pick the spot on that line. I dont think you can look at a putt and pick a spot without finding the line.
I line up a putt with a line on my ball. If there is a spot on the line that helps line it up then I aim at that but dont putt to that spot. With some breaking puts (especially downhill) I will putt to a spot and let gravity do the rest. |

Sort of the point I was hoping to make Shawn. Couldn't agree more. golf is not an either/or, many times it's both and even some times it's one way one time and another way another time. A lot is based on the greens and speeds of those greens in this case. |

I would say both. I put a line on my ball, pick a spot on the green, and see the imaginary line to the hole. Make a good stroke and watch it disappear in the hole...I hope!
