Ok for those who know me, I have finally moved (reluctantly) into the 21st century and purchased a smart phone. Even though I have a Skycaddie gps, I am looking to add a free golf gps to my phone. I have noticed that a number of you have this and I am looking for suggestions.

What's the best? I think GolfLogix is the best but that's $20-40/year. You can use it for free but it's a bit limited in what you can do with the free version. Why do I think it's the best? It's NOT a satellite view of the hole layout it's more of a drawing or animation of it. This makes it FAR easier to see in the sunlight than trying to find a darker place to view your screen. It's the most user friendly and easy to use. I'd give this a try. For $20-$40 for the full version I think it's well worth the small investment.
I also like The Grint which is satellite views but you can also keep a handicap with them. Also very easy to use and keep stats while you play, just not as easy to see in bright sunlight. All that being said. I've moved to a laser rangefinder and only occasionally use GPS for when I have blind shots or landing areas. |

Swing by swing was great until it crashed during a round and never would reboot. Had satellite and a scorecard. Now I use InfoTalk GPS and it’s similar in the satellite and scorecard part but find it uses way less battery for an iPhone. Both free.

Honestly, it depends what features you want the app to do. Distance only? Scorecard? Shot tracking?
Golf Pad GPS has all of it in an easy to use layout that's easy on your battery. Whichever one you decide on, do a dry run at home to get used to where everything is at as far as inputting data, otherwise you'll find it can really slow you down on the course. |
