Happy 4th of July to everyone. There are holidays that are fun and festive and some which makes us remember those who have served and fallen. But the 4th is the one which really started it all for us. Can anyone imagine what life would have been like if the revolution failed. There is a good chance that most of our families would never have immigrated to these shores. Our celebrations would have been built around celebrating the queen or king's birthday. As a history major, who focus was on colonial America, I truly believe that Americans cannot fathom what our Founding Fathers endured to build this country. Once when I visited the Liberty Bell, there was a group near me and the parents happen to mention that this was their first visit and remarked that they were not that impressed with what they saw. I am fortunate to live in the Philadelphia area and have visited, Independence Hall, Valley Forge, the Liberty Bell, the battlefields of PA and NJ and each time I get a thrill to think I am walking on the same ground of men like Washington, Franklin, Hancock, the Adams, Jefferson etc. To think of the modern luxuries we live in compared to the log huts of Valley Forge. We are living the American dream that our Founding Fathers envisioned. It may not be perfect but no matter what the world thinks of us, we are the envy of them all.

So Happy 4th of July everyone.

I'd be speaking with a much different accent but we'd be drinking darker beer, so that can't be too bad?! Also, I might finally know what a crumpet is.
