This is a golf related question, so keep your minds out of the gutter.
For the right handed players: About your golf swing, do you pull with your left side or push with the right side? |

Hitting a proper fade, with a dominant right hand is difficult for anyone that hasn't learned to hit the ball on plane with the proper swing path. Because most right-handers are right-hand dominant, they try and push the club. But without the proper sequencing, you get the over the top motion and a lot of times, a jerky motion from the top.
If you struggle with contact at all, learning to hit the inside-out draw with an iron is the best thing you can do, mostly because it's quite reliable. I was shown a drill by a buddy of mine more than 20 years ago and I still do it from time time because its great for your iron game and works miracles for your short game. Grab an iron, and cover your right hand only in baby oil (or K-Y or whatever your fancy) and just swing. You'll have absolutely no ability to grip the club with your right hand and it instinctively takes a supporting roll in the swing. It's virtually impossible to do anything but bring the club down on the proper inside path with the left arm. Keep in mind, that even that power fade the boys are talking about comes from an inside path. I hit a fade the same way JayPet does and it's powerful because you're still hitting the ball from the "slot" on an inside-out path. The right hand push fade is more of a feeling than an actual action. You're still pulling the club through the ball with the left side. And don't laugh, that drill changed my game. |
