Are you a line or spot putter? . . . or do you know? Tell us the story of how you discovered which you are and what happened?

Spot putter according to the definition anyway. I am good at seeing a line, then I pick a spot to stay on the line. I am totally a feel putter for distance and generally very accurate with distance.

Dotted line, with large dots on the key elevation changes.

Dotted line, with large dots on the key elevation changes. OK. Now that is both. (<- period!) |

The reason I brought this up is most players putt far better with one method versus the other. If you are unsure which you are and want to find out, it's pretty easy.
Go out to a practice green and use your normal pre-shot routine. Then when you get over the ball focus on one method. Hit a few putts thinking of nothing but propelling the ball along the line you clearly envision. Then hit a few putts focusing only on your selected starting spot. Repeat at other holes alternating back and forth the method you use first. Then compare the results. It's important that you have a clear mental picture of the line or spot. For most people after doing this, the difference is pretty significant. |
