If you can't break 100, that'd be a high handicapper IMO. About 28 or 30 for a handicap I would bet.

The problem is there is cache to being a low handicap player. Who wants to be known as a high handicap player?

I always considered someone who couldn't break 100 a high handicapper. Now my wife recently broke 50 for nine holes but I would still call her a high handicapper just by the skills she exhibits.

The over 20's handicap I think are high handicaps. How ever there are a lot of 10 to 20 handicaps that are high handicaps. Why they will drop a 2nd ball and play it, take that 5 foot putt and call it good. move their ball before hitting. true handicap is very hard to find. That would be anyone who bends the rules of the game even a little.

I think it's like the question: "At what age are you considered 'middle-aged.'" The older you get the higher the number.

Great question. Does that mean there is no discriminater between high, mid, and low? In local tournaments, I noticed 12 HCP was the difference between A flight and B flight.

If you have a handicap you should only record scores that were accomplished playing strictly by the rules.
Anyone who is playing around bogey golf, and playing by the rules should consider themselves a golfer. The handicap is designed to make everyone competetive when playing with a wide range of skill level golfers. When playing "net" games everyone is on a level playing field and a golfer with an 18 index is just as liable to win the dollar as a golfer with a 2 index. |

Well, I. guess there's no true answer to your question. It must be subjective as to what level a handicap one is. The golf channel is always referring to a high, mid and low handicap. You may want to pose the question there.
