Why in the hell are drivers so expensive?
I went to Golfsmith yesterday to swing the new Cleveland Classic. I loved the club plus others I hit including the new Callaway RAZR Fit, Taylormade R115, and the Ping G20. But the best one for me is the Cleveland CG Black you can crank that baby. With that being said you can easy over cook it off the course. All of the driver I just mention have a price tag of 300 to 400 dollars. I did find some good deals at Acdemy on older drivers. I ended up buying a new putter and balls and called it a day. I go back to my question why in the hell are drivers so damn high? Is it because they know we will pay for it, is it they know we will keep the club for years to come or is it the cost of marketing and manufacturing? |

Here was the moeny earned over at Callaway (2011):
Dollars in Millions Drivers, Fairway woods, Hybrids 212.19 @ 24% Irons 207.8 @ 24% Putters 88.8 @ 10% Golf Balls 160.4 @ 18% Other 216.6 @ 24% Gave Callaway a net sale 886.5 @100% But you are right in one area the spent 34.3 million in R&D. Which the company will get a taxable credit for some of this (I think). But they show a loss for 2011 for earnings. Even though most of their clubs are made in Mexico. |

Davy, I think you mean the money "grossed" by Callaway, not the money "earned". Huge difference.

Chicks Dig The Long Ball.
We are infatuated with distance and they prey on that. PUTTING will always be the equalizer in golf...greens surfaces (fast, slow, bumpy, bermuda, bent, etc...). Once greens become perfect/consistent surfaces (which will never be), golf will always be about rolling the rock a few less times per round. Save your money and work on your putting...ask IK Kim. |

I was looking at a long putter 3 years ago and it was $300, it did not find a new home with me. got one off ebay for $75 and then got 2 more a week later at a yard sale for $10 each. sold one of them for $50.

Ok so here's what I have learned from my post.
1. Wait until drivers go on sale 2. Head back to the bargin bin to catch deals on drivers 3. Even though my Driver is 5 years old it's still a great driver 4. I will no longer buy clubs from Callaway because they are made in Mexico only their balls are made in the USA. 5. Chicks dig the long ball 6. Takes money to play the game of golf now a days 7. Stick with buying a putter that's going do better for my game anyway Thats about it. Davy |
