App, Laser, or GPS???

I'm way over due to jump into the TECH WORLD. For the amount of golf I play, I am definately missing out by not having a laser or GPS device.

Today in my weekend foursome I was the only one with out a distance finder. 2 had lasers and 1 had a GPS on his phone (Golf Logix.) And of course eash swears by the one they have. For me the jury is still out but I'm leaning to a GPS. But I don't know which one or if I should just get a phone app.

My friends with lasers swear its the way to go. They really like knowing the distance to the pin. They arguing the that since the pin moves from round to round, and golf may courses change over time -- laser is the way to go. I will also say they tend to have an aggressive playing style then I do. My friends with lasers are more All or Nothing styles.

To the honest the GPS is really nice. Today I could just look over see the all the yardages I wanted -- layups, hazards, front, middle and back. The only real down side it the Golf Logix ate up a good chunk of my friend's battery life.

Any advice of what I should go with -- Phone App, Laser, or GPS device (Sky Caddie, Golf Approach, or other.)

I believe Bushnell now makes a Laser device with a screen on the side showing GPS coordinates. Best of both worlds and probably not a cheap investment.

Okay so here is some feedback.

I got a smart phone...pretty much because my last phone was 3 yrs old piece of garbage, and dropped ever other call. HTC Rezound is was I end up with. Absolutely love it. If your into music, and videos, you can't go wrong.

So immediately after purchase I put on golf logix and golfshot. Golf shot didn't work on the phone. It didn't pick up any of the GPS locations...only the distance to the hole.

As far as golf logix...I just completed my first round with it. It was very easy to use, I liked having my front, middle, and back green distances. It really helped on several shots. I played quicker, was more confident with my club selection. For the most part I only used the distance/gps screen. Since I played at the course regularly, I didn't need the hole view, just the yardage. I also felt, the scoring & stat system was easy to use.

Personally I like the golf galaxy stat tracker better than the golf logix. Mostly because all of my previous years stats and handicap is already setup. Looking at the golfshot website...I can tell they seem to have a better stat feature the golflogix.

As far as the whole sun light/brightness issue. There were a couple of times the light was an issue...but a simple tilt of the phone I was able to see everything fine. I really think this will be a really problem.

Battery life...I used up 40% of my batter life afer nine holes in 38 degree temp. So I feel that battery life won't be a major issue so long as your phone is fully charged. I also hear ever golf app is a battery hog. But since I play 9 holds more than 18...I feel I should be fine.

Overall...very happy with Golf Logix. On a side note...I do have my eye on a laser. Bushnell Tour V2...appears to be a solid laser with very few issues. But for now, Golf Logix is so much better than playing without anything.
