1st time I've seen him play without a hat. Is this some sort of protest?

It's not contained to just American fans, but there weren't any Europeans yelling "Win a major, Patrick!" 2 years ago like some of the fans were at Sergio this week. That's a bit harsh. Be better than that, folks.
I personally blame it on the fact these people are Minnesota Wild fans, some of the worst people on the planet. |

Wild fans are mean, dumb, entitled, and coddled to. |

I felt Rory was a little bit chippy yesterday and it's probably not a great marketing move. He's a well liked guy in the US and he was a Sergio-esque during play. The excessive shouting and having a little bit of an "in your face America" was not very becoming. If he is ever percieved as a villianous character, his brand could take a hit here. There's a big difference between a well liked rival and being Sergio. It's a calculated risk he doesn't need to take IMO. And Reed? He didn't have fans kicked out. If you act that way, be prepared to deal with insults. Just like Reed did 2 years ago. Grow up Rory, you've lost a former fan in FL you little baby. And some of our American fans are classless as usual In an interview earlier McIlroy said that the Americans get the same heckling from Euro fans that the Euro players are getting from the American fans. It's pretty universal. I don't think McIlroy did anything different than any American player would have done if the situation took place in Europe. I think he had every right to be chippy about it and it was handled as it should have been (and I'm rooting for the American team). I personally enjoy watching the emotions come from the players after sinking a 60ft birdie etc...the action itself should silence the critics in the gallery and does not need additional gesturing and crowd interaction. This only perpetuates reactions from the gallery, and a shift in otherwise favorable opinions of the players. Pump your arms, scream for joy, fist bump your mates, but no matter how hard it may be, don't take it outside the ropes. |

While in Canada, I had my Flyers shirt on and the hotel car valet guy was a little cautious in dealing with me while I was waiting for my car. It was not until we started talking did he realize I was a normal person and not a 'bully'. He was asking if people really get beat up in the stands while the hockey game was being played for wearing the opposing teams gear. I said no, that is just talk, you may get yelled at a few times, but not beat up. As I started to get in my car, I looked back at him with a smile and said, unless your a Pens or Rangers fan. His look was priceless! |

To the original question, Rory was actually quoted as saying that his head is too small for regular hats and he gets all of his custom made. Since the Euro hats came in the standard sizes in a big box, he didn't have a hat to wear.

Neither has Tiger throughout the years. |
