I am working on a tempo change for all full shots. Slowing the take away, very slight pause at top, smooth acceleration through the ball. The results are starting to show and I am hitting some great shots directly on the target line.
What I don't understand is today, with 100% humidity and only in the 40's, I was hitting the irons 5-10 yards longer than I was on clear, sunny, 75 degree days. For example, I was 169 yards from the flag, middle pin placement, thinking 7I (normally 165). Easily on the green below the pin right? Wrong, ball landed 4 feet from the back of the green and came to rest 8 feet into the back fringe. That was a carry of 180 yards. The ball never left the pin, but I believe it did wave as it flew over it. Thoughts? |

Slowing down the takeaway? I thought you had a really slow takeaway to begin with. Then it seemed like complete opposite in the downswing where you were much faster.
As far as an increase in distance, I wouldnt attribute it so much to the temperature. Yes, it makes a difference but its minimal. I think your increase in distance is due to the better tempo and you're making more solid contact, hitting the sweet spot and getting that "once in a while" distance more often. |

I think it's also due to the fact that the ball is harder in the cold weather. Combined with humidity and not playing a soft cover ball, the ball is reacting like a rock. Weather does have an affect on it but the better tempo will help too |
