Guys, have you ever used an alternate shipping method for your clubs ? Or do you usually bring them on the plane with you ? How many are renting next week ? I'm still trying to decide how, or if, I should bring my clubs ....

I always take my clubs with me and I've always brought them with me in the airplane, but I have wondered about that option, with airlines leaving your clubs behind very often that could ended up being a good option.

Good thing Jay can drive with his clubs because my clubs won't be there for him to use if the airline loses them.

I'd expect rentals to be $25-$40 a round versus a $25 checked bag. Rentals could be a nice set or REALLY crappy. Just spend the $ for taking your own clubs.
As far as Jay, he buys an extra seat for his clubs. They prefer a window seat. |

As far as Jay, he buys an extra seat for his clubs. They prefer a window seat. They have rentals there, $65 per set. I called the other day since I am not bringing my set for one round. |

I always bring mine on the plane. For multiple rounds, renting clubs is much more costly.
Only 2 times in all my trips did my clubs not make it and 1 was when Vince and I met Jesse and Sorrell at Tot Hill Farm before last years Open. My flight out of Ft Lauderdale got majorly delayed and I drove down and flew out of Miami. We made the back 9 and I used Scott's Driver, AGs irons and Vince's putter. Talk about improvising?!?! |

After a little more research, it turns out that golf equipment is considered a regular checked bag. Was not always the case on US Airways. They used to charge $100 each way for that. Guess things have changed since the AA merge .....
I'll have my sticks with me ! |

Guess things have changed since the AA merge ..... I'll have my sticks with me ! You should have consulted with USAirways most frequent flyer, Jay. FWIW, I flew to Scotland on USAir in 2001 and it was $35 for clubs. Can't imagine intl would be too much more even now. |
