What is the best way to confront a cheating golf buddy?

I got a golf buddy that I always play with that seems to very seldom lose a ball in the trees. "Here it is I found it." Man many of these shots you know they are gone, but he seems to locate his ball. I have even seen him drop a ball and of course he said, here it is I found it. What to do?

If he is actually cheating, he knows he is, so telling him won't do any good. If he's a good friend, then accept it and play on and laugh about it later. If you are playing for money or something, then confront him. If he cops attitude, then he really isn't a friend after all. But whatever you decide, golf is supposed to be a social game and fun! Don't let him get under your skin, and don't let yourself get under your own skin either.

Sounds like you need a new golf buddy as sooner or later you will call him on it. Best depart as friends then enemies.

Ask yourself this question.
Are you there to play your friends game?
are you there to enforce the golf rules?
are you there, at the golf course, to enjoy and play your game and make your shots?
who really cares if your friend or someone who you play golf with, is CHEATING. They are just hurting their self's. I, think your friend see's you as a THREAT, and is just trying to beat you in golf. But your not playing against your friends, your playing OLD MAN PAR! But if there's MONEY on the line, I, would call him on it! friend or no friend.

I say call them out, but make sure you are calling out the right person, or you shall look foolish. LOL. (Sorry again, Don!)

My buddy I play with every week takes 5 Mulligans a round. We don't bet and LOVE his company. We have played 10 years and at least 500 rounds of golf together. He has more money in the bank than I could ever hope for, so the ironic thing is he cheats at golf and is the most legit businessman and mentor than I could ever ask for??? Go figure!

Don't call him out because there may be gold in playing with him.

Get a dozen b grade of the ball he plays from Dr Mulligans. Next time you play help him look for his ball and always "find" it behind a tree before he does.

Another option would be to actually find his first, step on it, and wait to move your foot until he "finds" his ball somewhere else.

Try this, put your signature on his golf ball before he uses it. But only one ball until he loses it. He can't forge your signature. Then just sit back for a few rounds and watch the handicap rise!

Be careful to not be caught in the following dilemma: when he hits his "found" ball onto the green, do you pull the cheating bastard's ball out of your pocket and confront him with it or do you keep your mouth shut?

Quickly put his mark on 3 balls and throw them into the area. When he says he found it, let him know there are 3 others right here with the same marks. Which one is it champ? Gotta laugh. It is his game unless it is tournament or money.

These are all great responses. We do not play for money, just for fun. That's why I don't understand why he do it. But it is a competition and everyone wants to have the lowest score. He use to beat me by 10-15 strokes but I always play by the rules. We use to do mulligans but I stopped, of course he still uses at least one per round. I have beat him a couple times and now he may beat me by a couple strokes. I know I probably could beat him straight up. Here is another kicker. He will one hand putt from about 10ft, if he miss of course he will put the ball back and putt normal. I am saying to myself, dude you are looking at the break and speed, REALLY. I enjoy playing with him but sometimes that kind of irritate me.

It may be time to go fishing instead. It used to bother me when other players in my group took liberties with their scoring, but it's not me vs. them, it's me vs. the course / my hdcp. so I just ignore it.

When I play with someone like that, I decline to keep the main scorecard, instead I only keep my own score & stats. I have yet to see someone who took 'mulligans', adjusted their lie, etc.. declare that they won if their score is lower than mine because they know the truth.

Some will eventually catch on and play by the rules of golf, others will show up on a course, pay a fee, and hit a ball around in the grass for 3-5 hours. I have fun either way because I don't care what they do, I'm just glad to get out and play.

Unless there is money on the line or a tournament then I couldn't care less what my partners do. If there is money on the line or a tournament then I will let them know in a hurry that they are wrong.
