What if every law abiding U.S. citizen was "loosely" required to maintain and carry a firearm? We already know that gun laws do not affect those who do not abide by the laws. So, would it become a huge step backward and encourage outright gun fights, or would it make a "wanna be" crook think twice before he tried to take mamma's bag?

No disrespect intended, but that is an unrealistic what-if. People can't be required to carry if they don't want to. I think a more realistic question would be, what if...the Gov't decided to search our homes and vehicles and confiscate our firearms. How would criminals feel then about robbing people, knowing we didn't have firearms as protection. That thought worries me more.
BTW, I pitty the poor soul that tries to take my money. I'm just sayin'.....

Thoughtful! Of course I was "slightly" more provocative than may be my true center, but I think we'll enjoy the responses. If you don't think this pertains to golf, then just ask how many of...all golfers routinely carry on the course. Maybe more down here in snake country, but I think it would be a fun stat to know at any rate.

I have no problem with non-golf topics here. Though this is a golf forum, golf is only one part of each of our daily lives. The issues of crime, and self protection is a common issue affecting everyone.
Where I play, poisonous snakes would be a very remote threat. It would be much more likely to be robbed in the parking lot. Luckily for me, Florida still has the "stand your ground" law. So if you play golf with me, you can feel safe.

I have my thoughts on guns, I could get more involved than this, but I think you should only have a gun if it means you are protecting yourself and those around you. Judge based on that, I'm not going to spread any gasoline on the ground and light a cigarette.

I will add that as someone who lives 15 minutes away from where the movie massacre happened, no one should have the power to be able to get assault rifles like James Mother F&%king Holmes.

Agreed even though I am all for gun rights. Arizona we carry them. It hopefully gives second thought to the idiots out there that want to create trouble knowing that an individual may be carrying. It is not uncommon to see someone with one on their waist. I have a problem with Assult rifles. Really what is the purpose owning one? I also have a problem with the ability of the guy buying 6000 rounds of ammunition. Something will be done. Run a SS# or require a license that keeps a log of ammunition purchases as well as guns on an individual? It is very touchy subject with gun rights advocates. What is the answers?

What the hell does that mean?

Incidentally, it is illegal to carry a concealed firearm in Aurora. So much for your gun control laws.

What I meant by "you should only have a gun if it means you are protecting yourself and those around you" is that you should only have a gun if it means you are protecting yourself and those around you.

If you outlaw guns than the only ones who will have guns will be criminals and criminals don't follow laws.

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

Watch out for Ethan, guys. No more hunting when he becomes king, and he'll decide whether or not you are protecting yourself and those around you.

The only reason that we are not speaking Japanese or German right now is because of our gun laws. The Japanese leaders said that the only reason they never tried to send their troops to mainland USA during WW2 was because every citizen had access to a gun and we would wipe their forces out before they could even get past the Rockies.

England now has very strict gun laws and their crime rates are higher then ever.

Here in NC there has been a huge jump in CCP applicatiins over the past 5-6 years. In that same time period there has been a consistent drop in crime rates to the point that we are at an 40 year low in crime rates

I carry two and a third not quite locked in. I alternate hollow point and FMJ. Taking the third and loading snake shot might be a great idea.

Hell Don, snakes and robbers might be the least of your worries. You got gators! REAL gators. We've had a few 6 and 7 footers make it up into the estuaries of North Carolina this year though.
