Golf Training Aids - What do you use?

There is certainly a wide variety of training aids available. Everything from weighted clubs to special golf balls, simulators, videos, and even "head" coaching. What is on the market that you have used successfully or maybe you have improvised? What have you tried that you have found that works for you and what is less than effective?

I guess all I use that really applies here is a thing called a Birdie Ball. Basically a whiffle ball that will actually get you meaningful/accurate/trustworthy results.

Hey CoG, I have some of those too. I've used them primarily with my wedges.

I don't know if this is a training aid per se but when I went to the golf dome the balls are so worn they leave a sort of residue. Anyway this residue makes it easy to see where on the club face I hit. I was going to buy some Almost Golf practice balls but then the tsnownami came. :-(

It's more of a learning system, but it does involve a set of patented clubs that are designed to teach the proper swing. I was stuck at a 17-18 handicap for years. It got me from an 18 to a 3 handicap!

Unfortunately, it's not on the market yet. I was one of a few dozen beta testers. Man I hope they get this to market.

Wow, certainly sounds like it's been effective for you!

I took lessons at Golf Galaxy a couple of years ago. They had a club with 4 big plastic paddles attached. When you tried to swing it, the air resistance was massive. After a few swings with it when I went back to my regular club, I felt like my swing speed had doubled. I was all geeked up about the thing until the pro told me they didn't carry it anymore. Tried for awhile to figure out how to make my own without much success.

Had another pro look at my putting last year, he liked the basic setup but noticed I took the putter back outside my line and then looped back at impact. I now lay two irons parallel on the putting green with about a quarter inch clearance on each side of the putter head. A few strokes like that each practice session helps me keep a good stroke line.

The "inside aproach" in my opinion is teh best training aid out there. I used to use it when I was teaching and the concept is very simple.

I have seen that and it may be in my future. I also have to agree with bradley...hard work and practice...and I would include patience.

Any one tried the tour striker? I don't follow many trainers but I have one that doesn't believe in any training aids. Believes it's in us and all these tips are basically the shell not the nut and if we never get to the nut because we keep focusing on the shell.

But this is the one aid he supports. And it definitely makes you correct your angle to the ball. If you don't hit correct along the ground it goes. Haven't had time thanks to the weather to see how much it has improved my game but will keep you posted. I do know I am striking it much better thought..

Being as winter is here and many can't do anything outside for practice. There is a thing called Zoom Boom that has had many good comments about it and that includes a man that is planning on being PGA tour next year. Uses it every day for 15 minutes. The site is ZoomBoomGolf if your interested.
