I have been driving the ball further this year than ever before. Most rounds I am hitting at least 3 or 4 300+ yard drives. Additionally, within my recorded rounds (which is most of them) I am hitting 85% FIR. I have found myself becoming more accurate the further I drive the ball. I think there must be a correlation here. Any golf swing experts care to comment on that?

BTW, I have been working on swinging faster through impact this year with the driver (this was my goal this year). I have always held back a little thinking I would be more accurate if I only swung at 85% or so. Now I'm trying to accelerate at impact and I am getting 20+yards more distance and better accuracy.

When I let my left side start my downswing, and release the club it that is what I do. I am working on doing this more consistently. It works, I just need a little more work.

To me, as I started playing golf my swing speed was at 90mph. I can only drove the ball about 200-230 average. The last time I've checked at Golfsmith, now my speed is at 105mph, which explainning my 265-300 yards.

My swing speed has been in the 105-110 range for a few years now, but I don't think I often swung to my full potential on the course. I am also doing some exercising (and lost weight), which might have made my swing even faster lately. I bought a new 909 D2 titleist driver last summer because my Cobra x speed pro had a cracked face. Its not like I had never hit a 300 yrd drive before, but it wasn't consistent, and I was starting to max out around 290. I have hit some massive drives the past few weeks. Hit one 323 (with a little wind help), but then hit one in the exact opposite direction 298. I'm much more consistent now. It could just be something that has changed in my set up (ball position, etc) I have worked on that some too.

I have started primarily hitting a draw and focused more on timing in my swing. I want all the energy released at impact, which is what I think you are talking about. I think my new Titleist has a great ball flight too, which might help.

Loose muscles are fast muscles.
Fluidity of the swing.
and the draw doesn't hurt either.

My SS is around 115 and I average around 280-290 off of the tee with my driver and i hit around 85 percent of fairways. I have always been a long hitter but my accuracy really suffered. I hurt my hip a few months ago and had to change my swing a bit. At first my distance suffered but my accuracy went through the roof. As my swing speed got back up, my accuracy stayed the same. Now all I have to do is find a good shaft and head combination that will let me take advantage of my new found accuracy. I have almost no roll and all carry so I could possibly find about 10-20 more total yards if I had something that produced less back spin.

When you consistently accelerate beyond the ball you keep the hands ahead of the club and the club head won't rotate closed (see discussion on Duck Hook).

I trying to go for more Accuracy off the tee by not trying to hit 300 yard drives. I'm happy with 260 and fairway then 300 and miss fairways.

The weird thing for me is that if I swing a little hard, (not full blast hard like most people) I actually have my best chance at hitting fairways, because I am not trying to slow down too much, and it actually helps me release the club. That might just be a me thing though.

That is what I used to do, but I have found myself doing better when I swing firm (not coming out of my shoes). I try to swing in balance and accelerate through impact. I have not only gained yards, but I have been more accurate. I basically always hit a draw now though, whereas before I often set up to hit both fades and draws. I still occasionally hit a fade if I really need to, but I have found that draws work on almost every tee shot, so I try not to mess around with a fade anymore. I think it just messed up my timing.

I've basically given up trying to get more distance off the tee...I'm more accurate than ever hitting my natural draw or my new baby fade cut shot which I can do on demand. I've got a Cleveland MASHIE 18* hybrid that fits my swing and I'm making up the distance I don't get off the tee...plain and simple with accuracy including my 2nd shot...IF it doesn't make the green, I have the confidence to get up and down from inside 85 yards...

I have a cobra pro x hyrid 18* I love that club. I took my 3 wood out of the bag and I use it off of the tee and fairway. It is my straightest club off the tee. I'm looking into getting a 15* hybrid now. I like the hybrid feel better than the fairway wood. I think it is more useful as well.

Duck, I agree. You can hit 300 yard drives all day long but if your ball striking with your irons lacks, whats the point? Drive for show? Who cares. So much technicalities discussed for golfers that are struggling fairway to green and their handicap proves that. And the worry is 115mph swing speeds for 300yrd drives? How about going out, using some simplicity, and working on fairway to green, and around the greens. That is where the handicap goes lower. Most don't have the time of day to practice these technicalities. Too much thinking in those 6" between the ears is a majority of the reason for failure on the course.

I would agree, but I've been trying to smooth it down with driver lately. It is unpredictable for me for whatever reason. I have hit tons of low pulls straight left and tons of high or low pull hooks. Guess I might have to try and find a happy medium, because I just can't find it with a slightly slower and smoother swing.

Sounds like your timing and tempo to me as well as your hands/arms being too fast through the shot. I liked Matt Every this morning stating you don't need someone to detail every shot you make. YOU need to work on your own swing and mechanics. Do this and do that and all the technical stuff is for the Tour serious players that hit 500 balls a day. You can have someone tell you, or read books until your blue in the face, but if your body and athletic ability doesn't mold to it so to speak, your wasting your time. Find your good posture, and your timing and tempo and work on your game. All this technical stuff on this site is too much for most to add to their game. Learn what works best for you. I have seen a few on here write large posts that 99.9% don't understand or couldn't do, only to make your game more confusing. They mean well, I am certain, or they wouldn't waste their time posting them. I believe strongly it is too much information too early!

I live and die by what Matt Every said. There aren't any feel players hardly anymore, and everyone of them rush to a swing coach asap, because they don't know how to fix it themselves. Everything i hit, with the exception of a 4-iron, is pretty good. It's just the driver and nothing else.
