Golf balls and my game

Golf is a crazy game. I think i was a little slow adding 2 & 2. I have been scratching my head for a while over the difference between the driving range and the golf course. When I go the the driving range, I hit these long beautiful straight shots one after another. I even sit down between shots so I can train myself to have the same stance, grip and overall feeling. Then i go to the course and Im slicing or hooking trying to overcorrect, but I think I have the reason why. "Can playing a Tour ball affect your game? Absolutely." Thats Srixon's new ad line. Well, I think it has been hurting my game.

I play Srixon Z-Star balls and I seem to put way too much spin on them. If I play a hard cheap ball, I'm right down the middle. If I play my nice Srizxon yellows, Im 270 yards over to the right. I dont know why im just getting this. So im thinking of playing the Srixon Q Stars now to play a harder ball. Anyone else go through this?

Maybe it's the color. Try a pink one and see what happens.

That is what I have been trying to tell people for years. The right ball you one person may not be the right ball for another person. Go with the ball you can play best. Major golf stores even do ball fittings now. Sound like you need a ball with less spend for straighter shots.

I like Nike MOJO's. They have a line printed on them for lining up those putts. Saves on sharpies

I had the same issue playing ProV's. To much spin off of all the clubs.
I switched to the NXT's. less spin off of the long clubs but still enough off of the wedges.
I have since made some adjustments to the swing, and can control the spin a little better so I'm back to the ProV's now..
Some days I still play the NXT's. It all depends on the day..

Thats exactly what i am going to do. Move to a harder ball and try to work my way back to a softer ball. I hit my irons well with a softer ball, but put a wood in my hand and i'm inconsistent.

I experiment with balls quite a bit, likely more than I really should, or than is necessary, whichever the case may be. I have been playing the Callaway iz & is lately. I noticed that the Maxfli LCs that I was playing back up more on the short irons and wedges, but they spin more and amplify a poor swing. I also get 10 to 15 more yards out of the Callaways. I'm starting to use the is more because I like the softer feel.

Mmmm. I'm having a hard time making sense of this. It seems you are saying you hit the range balls straight but then when you go to the course you start hitting a ball that is slicing 270 yards to the right? And you think the only difference is the make and model of the ball you are using? I don't see how that is possible.

I think there is more going on here than that.

Assuming you aren't pulling our leg...

"270 yards over to the right" would put you off your fairway, over the fairway to your right, and over the NEXT fairway to the right on most courses--at least. Are you sure you didn't mean something like '270 yards out and 50 yards right of the fairway?'

Pay special attention to ALL the details in your setup on the course vs. on the range. Look for differences in the alignment of your feet, knees, hips and shoulders relative to the target line. Check your grip and compare the tempo of your swing.

You are creating a lot of side spin and we have to figure out why. The only way side spin gets created is with a face that is open compared to the direction of the club head. So we need to figure out what you are doing to create this dynamic and fix it.

Really then how come my pink ball is usually at least a good 20 yds past the closest yellow or male white one :) JK

You are reading into it too literally, but yes, you are correct. I hit the ball 270 yards forward but it has a slice spin on it which puts it in the next fairway or out of bounds. But mostly with soft balls like the Z-Star or the Nike Tour. I know what I need to do, but mostly after I played the round. I have to keep that right elbow attached to my side so I dont come over the top. Thats where my side spin comes from. I forget when im on the course. I also overswing on the course. Not sure why though.

Because you are always playing with senior citizens. = ) LOL

Just like my wife. She loves to rub it in when she outdrives me. The more you guys outdrive us, the sooner we are going to make you gals play from the whites or even the blue tees. = )
