Which is your favorite grass type, and why, which ones have you played on?

I have played Bermuda, Bentgrass, and SeaShore Paspalum, I prefer the paspalum, typically fast green, and true to the line, fairways are always hard, and the rough is generous compared to bermuda.

I've played mainly on Bentgrass in the upstate of SC, but I have played Bermuda. I will say that unless it is a Bermuda like champion or emerald that can be cut down and not be soft during the winter time, then it is worthless to me. I do prefer Bentgrass playing wise, but I would be more to having Emerald Bermuda if I could.

My home course has bent grass greens. When the they are good they are great but all it takes is a few stray seeds from somewhere else and a green is done with for the season.

I've played on bermuda, poa, and bent grass. Bermuda is tough for me since it's a lot slower than what I'm used to in CO with bent 90% of the time. Factoring in the grain isn't my thing as I like to be able to focus on the line of the putt and how fast it's going to be. Poa's just weird. Not sure how to describe my feelings of it. So bent grass is my favorite just because it's a bit quick and overall very simple.

I agree. If you don't take proper care with syringing all afternoon from time to time with hand-water guys, Bentgrass will get taken over by another grass easy. We have a green or two where Bermuda has .over the edges,

We have 3 that got spots of bermuda in the middle of the green. Found out that one of the green mowers was messed up so one of the part-time guys lowered the blades on one of the fairway mowers but he didn't clean it first. It ended with some really bumpy sections and possibly having to spray all three with Roundup.

Bermuda. That's what most of the courses are in my area. And I want someone to tell me that my greens aren't fast. average 11 or 12 on stimp

#4 has some. #9 it is all over. #10 it has overtaken the whole front. That's about all I can remember. I think that is it though.

“‘Hybrid … of bluegrass, Kentucky bluegrass, featherbed bent and northern California sinsemilla (sic), The amazing stuff about this, is that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on the stuff.’”

JK... Bermuda is about all you find here....

I've played on poa, bent grass, and Bermuda. Out west it's mostly poa or bent grass and I'm fine with either. I just want it to be well maintained. Grain isn't really an issue with those grasses.

So when I started going to Florida to spend time with my parents I had to learn how to read and compensate for the grain. That was a challenge at first. Since I don't play it much I still have to re-adjust.

I tend to like Bermuda. The strains of Bermuda that they have now are much better than they used to be. At my old home course, they could get the greens running around 11 to 12 on the stimp for the club championship, and about 10 the rest of the year. When they go dormant, the stimp meter doesn't have a number high enough.

I also prefer it because I can still putt well on bentgrass...but any of my friends up north can't figure out the bermuda to save their lives! The grain takes a lot of getting used to.

Bent is my preference. Tough for course Super to maintain and isn't on many courses in AZ because of the summer heat. It is almost always smooth and true, not to mention they are ususally very receptive to shots into the greens.

Play on mostly Bermuda in AZ. Can be a bit grainy on the greens. Occasionaly we get greens very spotty (grass voids) and not to fun to play on. I like to spin the ball. Good Bermuda fairways allows this.

Poa I play on going up North to Prescott, Sedona or Flagstaff. San Diego as well. I enjoy playing on Poa Annua greens. Soft and can throw shots into them. Most shots will darn near plug where the ball hits. Just don't play on them late in the day. Bumpy.

Worst? Kikuyugrass. Torrey Pines, CA- don't get in the rough into this crap.
