There are a few topics that I can go on for days about. Sports, fitness, and talking about the golf swing are my favorites. If you wanna talk fitness, I can help you sift through all of the b.s.

I'll bite.....

Several people in the other post keep taking about strength to make the ball go further.

This makes no sense as I know guys that can't lift or move very much weight but they can knock the snot out of a ball.

It is my belief that "Fast Twitch muscle speed" affects golf distance more that "Strength". Flexibility also plays a part too.

That being said, what are your thoughts and what are the best ways to build "Fast Twitch Muscle Speed"?

Isometric training. Several articles on it. Doesn't really require special equipment.

That's part of the problem. Strength doesn't make the ball go further, speed does.

I don't think flexibility is as important. There are some old geezers who can play very well and basically utilize a half swing.

So what are we really talking about? Do you have to hit it further to play better golf? Probably not.

NO!!!!!!! Look at my scorecards to prove that! I can drive it 300+ regularly but can't get it into the hole (a golf ball that is)! Where as one of my partners probably isn't much more than 240-250 off the tee box and beats me 4 out of 5 times.

When it comes to golf, I think there's a lot of confusion. People look at the pro's and figure since these guys do one thing or another, that's what I need to do to get better. That's flawed logic. You wouldn't look at this months muscle mag's workout of the month and expect to step on stage and compete with pro bodybuilders. It's a great way to sell magazines but it's not real life. Those guys train in a specific way because they've layed the ground work for many years. They are at an elite level. I couldn't do Jamie Sladowski's workout and expect to hit it 400 yards.

As far as fitness goes in relation to your golf game, you'll need to figure out what's holding you back physically. If it's flexibility, then that's what YOU need to work on. Each player is different. There are certain things that can help everyone, but the bottom line is being in better physically will help everyone. However, a stronger core won't help my game. Working on my short game will.

I think that's the first thing I have ever agreed on you with, lol. Short game, short game, short game, this is why I am considering going to blades. Better feel.

Don't get hung up on the fast twitch/slow twitch stuff. That's overcomplicating things. Having a solid foundation in swing mechanics, good overall fitness, and proper equipment will do more for your game than trying to workout fast or slow twitch muscle fibers.

I never said that.

Since golf is all about being consistent, the more times I can hit a club that I can count on, the better.

I find it easier to hit my "Shorter Clubs" and I am more consistent with them. If I could get an extra 10-20 yards out of them I am pretty sure I could drop a couple of strokes just because I would be able to use the clubs I am more consistent with more often.

For endurance, I am less concerned. I have been known to hit 75+ balls on the range and then go play 36 holes. If you look at my handicap, you know that is a lot of strokes.

A lot of people get stuck on this mentality though Buck. On the pro tour, the longest hitter doesn't always win and neither does the guy with the best short game. Out there it's about getting on a hot streak. Usually it's a putting contest for the pros.

I'll say this, had you asked me 2 years ago about which part of my game needed the most attention, I would have said driver. I lost more strokes to hitting balls OB off the tee than anywhere else.

I didn't accuse you of that. Just a general statement.

Sounds like an issue of mechanics. Sidespin is excentuated with the longer clubs that have less loft. Have you ever tried choking down on the driver?

I don't buy this either. If the resistance isn't increasing the plateau will be reached sooner. Once that happens you don't get any stronger.

For instance, if you can do between 5-10 pullups, doing them on a regular basis will make you stronger (back, shoulders, core, etc). However, once you reach the point where you can easily do more than 10 at a time, the benefits aren't the same. You'll need to add a weighted vest/belt to keep progressing in strength.

Ponder this if you will.
Which of the workouts below would elicit more speed? Which would elicit more mass? Which would help someone trim down?
We'll use the bench press and the squat just to be simple.

Workout A:
4 sets of 5 reps with 200lbs

Workout B:
2 sets of 12 reps with 150lbs

If you wanna talk fitness, I can help you sift through all of the b.s.

So far, your help "Sifting through all the B.S." has simply been none of the things anyone mentioned will help a persons game.

In comparing our stats, we are close to each other on Handicap. My biggest issue is GIR. I hit almost 10% more fairways than you but I have issues on the second shot because they usually involve a 3h,4h or 5h. By increasing the distances of the clubs I am more consistent with, I could have better second shots that are more accurate at greater distances (using clubs I hit more consistently) which leads to more GIR. In turn I could shave a few strokes easily.

Yes better mechanics will help and I am working toward that. I would be foolish not to work other things that will help me at the same time.

For openers, I never said anything about improving anyone's golf game. I said I'd help sift through any fitness b.s.
As for stats, FIR is slighlty meaningless to compare with me. You may hit 10%, 30%, 50% more fairways, but you don't know how far I missed a fairway by. Could be a foot, could be a mile.

Increasing the distance on your first shot would also give you a chance to hit shorter clubs on the 2nd. Again, it's probably more to do with mechanics.
