Not on a golf course, though I've seen them several times on the courses here in South Florida. I did have a close call with a gator in the Everglades once. I was hunting with my son and my friend about 5 miles NE of the Jetport. It was about a half hour before daylight and we were walking out to our tree stands. We were wading about thigh deep across an airboat trail when I stepped on this gator. He was just laying under water and I surprised him as much as he surprised me. When I felt him move under my feet it scared the crap out of me. It scared him too because the water exploded like a 200lb tarpon jumping. He exploded out of the water and luckily went away from us. Looked to be about 8 feet long or so. Something I'll always remember when in similar situations.

I posted one of these back in September. Thought it sounded familiar, so I checked. Different guy, different course, not sure about the croc... Could be a repeat offender I suppose.

Gators or crocs aren't known for their presence in the places I've golfed in, so no.

I had a close call with a gator in Myrtle Beach 2 years ago. But I didn't know it till AFTER the fact.

I was playing in the World Am and on a par 3 hit onto a steep hill that went down to water. My ball was sitting partially in the water but playable. So I removed my right shoe to take a stance in the water, played my shot and hit to about 8 feet from the hole. My cart partner said to me after I hiot my shot, " I didn't want to tell you while you were in the process of hitting but I guess you didn't notice the gator sitting on the other bank?" I turned and sure enough there was an 8-9 foot gator sitting there. My partner said he was watching it and if it moved even an inch he would have alerted me. Had I saw it BEFORE I played the shot I would have done things quite a bit differently.

I've played a fair amount of golf at The Villages in Florida where they've got alligators on quite a few of the courses. You learn to be VERY aware of your surroundings.

I have been lucky, they dont make it up to idaho very often. I was in Cancun last January. I really wanted to play while I was down there, and iberostar was the closest course to the resort we were staying. Crocs in the area was the main reason I decided not to play. Pics of them laying in the fairways all over tripadvisor, was enough to convince me maybe I should go snorkeling.

So what you're saying is you chose the chance of having a limb bit clean off by a shark over being in a death roll with a gator?

I played there 3 times the week before Christmas last year. Crazy. I kept seeing some lizard type thing (that looked like a 2.5 to 3 ft crocodile). They freaked me out. They would pop out of a hole in a sand trap and make a weird noise when you took a sand shot.

Coincidentally, the Iberostar Cancun Golf Club is the only game in town for 18 at that end of Cancun. I stayed at the Iderostar. I liked the course, but would not travel there just to play it.

We stayed 2-3 resorts away, and royal Solaris, more of a budget resort. It would have been an 8 peso bus ride, and on golf now was a pretty reasonable price.

is that the same as "golfo ahora" ?

My wife and I have stayed at the Moon Palace Spa and Golf Resort in Cancun three times, and I don't recall seeing any alligators. The first time we went, there were these weird creatures running around the course that looked like a cross between a monkey and a squirrel. Turns out they are in the squirrel family....really big squirrels. Bought a sandwich from the cart girl and one of the beasts stole it while we were putting. The Nicklaus Signature Course at Moon Palace is really terrific. Play it if you're ever in Cancun. Expensive....around $400 if you're not on a package, about half that if you're on a resort package. But worth it.
