The PGA has said according to the golf channel that 20% of all golfers use a anchored putter. Are they serious? 1 out of every 5 golfers? The PGA can go protect Bradley and Simpson, and all the others who use a anchored putter but please don't make a stupid statement. Being a amateur player who has played for years IMHO I can't recall seeing anyone using a anchored putter.

Mark,
Gary Williams spoke on this subject for a few minutes on the Morning Drive and he made it very clear that the PGA was using 20% of all golfers not just the PGA tour. He also went on to mention Tiger and Rory saying they feel it should be banned and then he quoted Ernie Els saying sometime ago if the others can cheat with the long putter then I can too. I really feel the PGA is just wanting to protect a few of it's high profile players and couldn't care less about us amateurs, the USGA and R&A. |

If there is going to be a legal battle then might as well make for all the marbles. In one of the few times I may actually agree with Tiger, the putter should not be any longer then the shortest club in the bag. Quit trying to appease everyone by making the "hinge of the stroke" the focal issue. Build up the war chest monies to take on the equipment and PGA honchos along with its members then litigate as to who makes the rules of golf once and for all. One way or the other all issues will be decided. This legal battle has been brewing since the early Ping days. Time for a resolution.

I think we need to be clear on whether we are talking about anchoring in general or only in the context of "long" putters. Anchoring has been around for a very long time, well before the controversy over long putters.

It not just for the long putters and the belly putters.
If golfer anchored his/her left arm elbow to the body is considered anchoring the putter to the body. In this case, we had seen the hall of fame golfers like Arnold Palmer , Jack Nicklaus......all had those putting posture of arms attached to their body. I talked to several local golfers and most don't believe this proposed ban on anchoring putter to the body will fly. At least not according to the proposed definition. |

I remember seeing one golfer in the past five years. I play around 130 rounds per year.

Great point and thanks. http://www.pga.com/golf-equipm.. |

I have been saying the same thing since I got a look a what they consider anchoring. They are saying that it is 100% fine to anchor the traditional putter but if you were to ancher a long putter in the exact same way it is against the rules. Double standards dont usually go over too well. |
