Has anyone been to Spain to play golf? My wife and I are trying to plan a trip but don't have any idea where to go? We've been to Spain once and drove from Madrid to Salamanca to Granada and back to Madrid. Driving was easy. There are simply too many choices of hotels and golf course since we have zero clue as to which area might be best. Costa del Sol appears to be a very popular area which is in the South along the coast. I need some help in selecting golf courses or area and specifically courses to avoid based on your experience. Thanks for your help guys.

I haven't been there, but from what I understand, I wouldn't play golf on the plain. From what I recall, they get alot of rain on the plain. LOL

That one I get. But it would have been better if you had sung it.

Dan Brown, thanks for the responses. Nice pictures. I also hope to get to Gibraltar and take a similar picture. With regard to hotel, 280 euro/day! Wow. The estimate I got form the hotel I looked at, just two days ago, was $105/night. That was the quoted price for the specific travel dates we are contemplating. I can lock in a rate before I leave Houston. I also have a very decent quote for a hotel for seven days, four rounds of golf on nice courses (not Valderrama), breakfast each morning and all taxes paid. The quote was for $1,099 with seems very reasonable. We just need to add a rental car and air fair which is not cheap.

We are planning a June/July trip. What time of year were you there. Did you enjoy the course. the weather, the food, etc? Thanks for your help.

Who's three dog night?

I'm a Frankie Valle and the Four Seasons, Buddy Holly and the Crickets, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Fats Domino, Johnny Cash, etc.kind of guy.

You know Three Dog Night even if you don't realize it. They did "Joy to the World" (Jeremiah was a bullfrog), "One is the Loneliest Number," "Just an Old Fashioned Love Song," and "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)" in addition to "Never Been to Spain."

I was there in early July 2012. The golf course was phenomenal. Olives trees everywhere, very open and lush fairways. You didn't want to be too far left or right, but the smaller sized trees, which seemed to dominate the course, made it easy to get over them if you were off target. The weather was far better than I could have ever asked. High 80's everyday. The food - probably the best part of the trip. I love mediterranean food and it abounded! The wine was also fantastic. Palma is one of the nicer visits I've ever had overseas - one of the places I'll try to get back to one day. Many fond memories were made.

Yea, you're right. I do know some of those. "Joy to the World," "One is the Loneliest Number," but don't recognize the others. How about that? I liked Three Dog Night and didn't even know it.

Do you remember what the taxes were on your hotel? We estimated 30% total taxes since we had nothing else on which to base the taxes. We assumed that 30% would be conservative.

The Value Added Tax rate in Spain is 21% but typically all prices quoted in Europe are inclusive of VAT.

Here is the link to the course's website - I had forgotten, but it's a Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design: http://www.golf-alcanada.com/e...
