So, yesterday I played golf at New Mexico State University golf course. I joined a seniors golf group here in the Mesilla Valley so I could have a place to play in tournaments. I love to play golf when you are forced to count everything and there are no "gimmees". Anyway, I have also decided to join a couple of the groups that play together regularly. There are two here: the Bogey Busters and the Nations Group. So, we show up at whatever time they have arranged a group of tee times, they toss balls in the air and we get grouped into foursomes. We play a $1 Nassau which means the most I can lose is $3. So, yesterday I get paired up with with Larry and Mary. Yes, it's a seniors group but it's not restricted. Women can play. Mary proceeds to hand me my hat all day long. She's on my team in our team format but she is killing me with her driving, iron play and putting. She outdrives me all day by at least 20 to 30 yards every time. And that's after I have nailed my best drive downwind. She hits nice irons, hits lots of greens, makes several birdies and eagles one par 5. On the hole that she eagled, I hit a terrific drive that may have outdriven her but unfortunately I pulled it slightly and caught a fairway bunker. She's about 25 yards ahead of my drive in the bunker and she proceeds to hit the green from about 220 or so. She drains a 30 foot putt for an EAGLE 3! Afterwards, we still lose and I had to pay up $1. I asked her what she shot and she said 73! I had a decent round and had an 81. This is not a young tall gal with a huge arc. She's a bit shorter than me and she is a senior as well.

Anyway, I was suitably impressed. I know a few players that I would love to pair her against. She would shock you. By the way, I don't know why I only had to pay $1. Apparently there's a bit more to their scoring that I haven't figured out yet. i thought you guys might appreciate this story.
