Academy here in Aggieland is selling Pentas for $28.66 a box (with the tax).

Why?

I have no idea, but Pentas for under $30 a box seems ridiculous. Aren't they as good as any ball out there?

TM is releasing a new ball soon and they're trying to clear inventory off the store shelves. It makes you wonder how much mark-up they must have in golf balls to get rid of them at that price.

It does. I bet it doesn't cost $1 a ball to make a B-330 or ProV1, maybe more depending upon how much a company spends on research and development.

Linds brought me home a dozen Taylormade Penta TP blacks and I must say I was very excited to try this ball out. When I had my ball fitting at the PGA superstore the pro recomended I try the five piece ball and I had the best numbers on the monitor using the B330s and the ProV1x. The TP ball was third or fourth running with the Zstar. I have played three rounds with this ball and it is so much shorter off the tee than my ProV1x or the B330s. If I could get the distance out of it the ball would stay in my bag. The penta TP spins like crazy with the wedges and no ball has performed better from 100 in. Again side by side against the ProV1x it was almost twenty yards shorter for me. Maybe the old four piece TP black would be a better ball but I think I will stick with the B330s for now.

I had just the opposite experience. I hit TP Red and Pentas further than I do the Prov 1s or NXTs. I like the overall control of the Penta better than the Prov 1. I feel like the Penta flies straighter on all of my clubs. It is very good inside 100 yards, as you mentioned.
