Does it bug anyone else that in the TV commercials for the new Titleist Velocity, the ball is spinning forwards, i.e. it has topspin? It should be looping precipitously down towards the ground, not hurtling forwards in level flight. I'll let the corona of flames go as artistic licence, but the breaking of the laws of physics is unforgivable!

Maybe they are trying to say that the Velocity makes you top the ball. ;-)

Dont exactly know what you mean by softer. Soft feel?, or soft more responsive? or softer because it spins back more. no doubt the proV1 will spin back more, if thats what you like. It has more than double the spin rate of the NXT balls. This morning I played with my nephew. He played the prov1 and I played my nxt. On a couple of par 3 holes with 7 irons and 9 irons, he spun his ball back 4 feet. Mine stoped exactly at the ball mark. As for feel, I notice the proV1 makes a clicking sound when it is struck, but the nxt is quiet, Choice of balls is a preference of course. But I play the nxt because I believe it flies straighter off the tee, it is as long or longer than the prov1, and it stops right at the ball mark on the greens. My nephew also played a ball called a hex something or other for a few holes. Long ball and very responsive around the greens, but he tore up the cover after about 3 holes. Very soft cover it seems.

I tried this ball ONCE! If you like to work the ball at all with a fade or a draw, this is not the ball for you. It turns an attempted draw into a block or a fade into a pull. The Velocity just doesn't have enough spin off of the club face to work it from one side to the other. If you are generally a straight ball hitter, you will probably like this ball.

Yep...hope I don't offend anyone but this is a real good "dumb" ball.

Nice to have a shorter club into the green but it sucks if your ball won't hold.

That is why I play the Hex Blacks. The side spin is minimal, the cover is durable and it spins when I need it to.

Three shots why I am back in Black, Hex Tour that is..hehe

1. The obvious. Standard well struck high 9 iron hits two feet left and one foot short of the pin. One hop and it stops even with the pin one foot to the right.

2. A mishit high spinning, low flying wedge, screaming at the green. It hits 7 feet onto the putting surface and keeps biting and biting until it stops 35 feet past the pin, BUT, it's still on the green.

3. A recovery from a left hit drive from under tree limbs. Setup for a hard draw with a 4 iron, ball played back a bit. The ball screams out 50 yards and at about 10 feet off the ground starts to bend strongly left, around the corner of the stand of trees, and runs down the tight fairway 190 yards for a lob wedge into the green.

These were not shots that I had in my bag with the Velocity.
