How long should a ball stay in play?

I was talking about a ProVx on a another post, that I played all 18 holes with it and would retee it today. But the question is, how long do you keep a ball in play?

I like to start the round with a new ball, so 1 per round unless I lose it. I do keep it in play if it becomes scuffed (it usually doesn't affect performance). When the collection of used ProV1's gets big enough, I hand them over to the junior program for the kids to use.

I would retee the same ball if I had it after 18 if it was in good shape. I like to start off with a new ball and try to end with the same one but, if the round is not going good I will change that ball to see if I can get something going. Kind of like spitting on your hook when the fish aren't bitting.

Hey, that works!

But does spitting on your *golf ball*? Maybe?

Only when you can't find a ball washer.

I play with a ball as long as it is in "decent" shape, no cuts or huge scuff marks. I have several golf balls in my bag that I have been playing with for weeks. Sometimes, I'll find a ball that is in better condition than the one I'm playing with. I will eventually retire ethem to by practice bag when they just get too old. I hit the ball pretty straight so I don't often lose a ball.
