Yesterday after a lack luster tee i said "That's what happens when you try and kill it." To which my father in law said "There is not one case of a golf ball being killed so stop trying." It was one of the better pieces of advice i've ever received.

I think I will go with Stuart Maiden the famous golf instructor when asked by a pupil what he thought of his swing...
"Take two weeks off, and then quit the game all together." |

Even better...Harry Vardon wrote in his book inj 1906 that too much golf would be bad for your game.
"Don't play too much golf, 36 holes a day is enough." |

Or Walter Hagen...
"Never hurry, never worry and always take time to smell the roses." or even better "Two of these and one of those is still a birdie." (An apt description of how Hagen could get himself out of trouble) |

After a 100 yard wormburner that barely reachs the edge of the fairway, my buddy is all PO'ed. I'll usually tell him "Don't worry man that won't hurt your fairway percentage any". Usually I get a little grin out of it and it takes his mind off of a shot he can't get back.

One that I frequently use when a buddy of mine will pop up a drive or top one ffor a whopping 100 yards...
(In my best cheesy sports broadcaster voice...think Cosell) "It looks like he decided to lay-up." or... If the ball was a pop-up... "It was a beautiful shot...if it was a sand wedge." or for the topped shot... "He decided to play that one...under the wind." |

I almost forgot...when my buddy hits a pop-up and asks..."where did that go."
I reply in my best Howard Cosell voice... "Its going...it going its...oh no wait its right in front of you." |

Not sure about my favorite, but my least favorite BY FAR is "Drive for show, putt for dough!"...I like to say to these people "Hey, that was a great 20 footer...for a 7!...I bet you won tons of "dough" after you put 2 balls in the woods off the tee!....moron"

My favorite piece of advice is... "Forget the last hole. Good or bad. Forget the last hole".

Don't get in a hurry to start your downswing, the ball will still be there.
