How early do you show up for a round of golf?
Are you the person that shows up 10 mins before your tee time, running to the putting area, and then pulling out your driver to blast a few? Do you show up with enough time to look around, stop at the pro shop, stretch, hit a few putts, hit some troublesome clubs in your bag, have time to relax and focus. I myself have found it to be a good idea to show up about an hour earlier than my tee time. I say an hour because you never know what is going to happen. I have time to pay, look around, stretch without any rushing, practice (if they have a range), putt. I feel less stress once it is time for my tee time. My wife thinks its nuts for me to show up an hour early, and I always tell her, you never know. The course may be 30 mins away or longer. It may be some construction going on. I use to just show up and start swinging, and now that my understanding of this game is increasing, I try to do better. What do you do? |

I typically like to get to the course 20-25 mins. before my round, pay my green fee, and putt up until my tee time. If I've got more than that amount of time I'll go smack a few balls around on the range.

It depends on what type of round it is. If it is a tournament then about an hour before but if it is a casual round then I just give myself enough time to get the speed of the greens and get loose.

After reading Army's post I should mention that if it's a tournament then I like to be at the course an hour to an hour and a half prior to my time to get warmed up. During a tournament warmup I'll always hit a bucket on the range.

Leo, like you I like to show up an hour before my tee time. Unlike you, it sounds like I'm more programmed on what I'm going to do with that hour.
I'll check in at the Pro Shop and check to see if there is anything unusual going on that day. Then I'll hit the range. Some stretching and then several swings without a ball intended to warm up the muscles and get the swing motion in sync. Hit a number of balls with the 4-iron (it worked for Tom Watson and his reasons for doing so make sense to me). Then a few with my 3-hybrid (heavy club, good for stretching out the muscles). Then a mix of a wedge, mid iron, then hit a handful with driver. After that I go through the sequence of clubs I expect to use on the first hole about 5 times and I'm done there. If there is a chipping area, I'll hit a few trips, just to get the motion grooved. Finally to the putting green for about 15 minutes of putting. The focus there is on making a bunch of short putts and getting close with a variety of long lags. Then I'm good to go. |

Without exception, about an hour before my tee time. I stretch, hit a small bucket, chip, bunker, pitch and putt...then I head to the first tee and immediately slice one OB...it's good to have a routine.

I prefer an hour. That gives me time to hit 30-40 balls (I don't want to hit more), chip, putt and hit sand shots if the course has a practice bunker.
Anything more than an hour and a half is too much. Less than 30 minutes forces me to pick one or two of the four things I like to do, and I don't like it. I do it all the time, but it's not my preference. |

30-45 minutes.
Rushing to the first tee usually means ruining the score on first few holes. I'd like to stretch a little before teeing off, since my body is not any younger. |

About an hour before tee time ... stretch out ... hit a small bucket ... practice putting ... and away we go!

One-hour before. I like to ease into it. Or, psych myself out before I reach the #1 teebox.
