The golf season here in the Midwest has come to an official end. When the last couple of seasons have started and I add a year of age, I can't help but wonder will this be the year that my golf game starts heading in the wrong direction. I have to admit that for most of the season I've been pretty disgusted with my game, one of the most inconsistent years that I can remember, but thanks to a pretty decent last 10 to 15 rounds my handicap has actually dropped from a season start of 12.4 to a season ending 11.1. This is a huge confidence builder for me going into the off-season. My handicap has pretty much been dormant over the last couple years, so to see a drop leaves me on a season ending high. Anyway just wondering how you all are feeling about your game for the 2017 season. Don't worry, I don't think any of you have to worry about age taking a toll on you game, at least for a little while.

I played today with three areas of focus:

1) Balance -> Perfect balance at set-up and perfect balance at the finish

2) One shot at a time -> Dwell only on the now not on the future or the past, just the shot in front of me.

3) For every shot over 140 yards aim for the middle of the green.

Result: The easiest even par round I have ever shot. 2 birdies, 2 bogies and 14 pars.

I'm in Davie. Would love to meet up for a local round. Anytime, because I'm retired. I also don't mind traveling to Naples, Ft Myers, Sebring, which I do several times a year, or Miami.

2017. Not sure what to say about my game. I have always had a love for the game of golf. But as most of you know, I took a step away from this site and fell off the face of the earth. Priorities, one of them not being golf, have really stepped into my life the past few years. Most of you know I went through a divorce a few years back as well as some personnel problems, multiple surgeries, problems with children and finally the loss of a handful of friends well before their time. It was really a wake up call for me that certain things in my life needed to change. I met a wonderful woman about a year after my divorce and my perspectives as well as my focus on goals in my life really changed. Sure, I still get excited over shooting in the mid 70's, but more important I've realized golf is more about the people you play with, rather than the score you shoot. I was blessed to meet and play a round with JayPet a few months back and hope to do the same with the rest of you sooner than later. Age has taken its toll on my body and some days the pain I experience out weighs the pleasure of the game. But I will keep playing as long as I can for I do love the sport~

I'm glad that you have left a rough part of your life behind you and are moving forward in a positive light. Playing with friends on this site sooner or later is a must. You are one of the people on here that I have always wanted to get together with. Just to give you something to think about. I will be down in the Lauderdale area in January. Maybe we can make something happen. Jay, I will be calling you.

I'm usually over in that area twice a month. Please keep me posted. Look forward to it!!

Jan 15 th to Jan 22nd. We have a house rented in Pompano. I will keep touch.

Mike, we will get a game going. Gary and I had a lot of laughs (mostly from our play). Great guy and someone you’d enjoy. I can promise you, we will NOT be bundled up in winter coats like the last time you and I played. We will be in shorts.

Well, my season consisted of 1 round. But I feel like I'm heading in the right direction.
Spent from May of 16 until now watching and learning from people with similar styles, and when time allowed, I'd practice any way I could. We have a few places out here that rep certain manufacturers, so for the price of a bucket of balls and surrendering my debit card, I got to practice what I've learned on the latest and greatest for drivers, hybrids, and irons. I have an old 50* wedge and balls galore so I've learned short game from pretty much any situation. And Golf Galaxy will always let me play with their Scottys (even tho, when I get my new clubs, I'm going to go with an Evnroll ER6).
Right now, if GC2s are to be believed, my swing speed is 87-93 mph which is down from my usual 98-103mph pre knee surgery. With that said, that one round I played this year, I was hitting the ball further. Why? I had to rebuild my swing to accommodate my gimp knee, and now I'm actually swinging in sequence and finding the center of the clubface. All my drives were either in the fairway or first cut. Shame I had no real iron game that day, but I figured out why. THE SWING DOESN'T END AT CONTACT! So all approach shots and par 3s were going right because of open clubface, silly Dave. Luckily, I had short game firing and saved more than a few from becoming bad scores. I had 2 blowup holes where I tripled, both of them par 3s which kept me from shooting mid 80s.
But for the first time ever, I trust my swing and can repeat it pretty well, I know what equipment I want, and I'm fairly chomping at the bit for winter to go away and I'm predicting my 17 handicap should fall to 12 and the end of next year. Fingers crossed.

Make sure your handicap doesn't go down to low, or you're going to have to change your name. Good luck!

That's sounds great to me. The only downfall for me is not playing golf for just short of 3 months when that time comes around.

2017 for me was absolute dogsh!t. My chipping went all to hell and I didn't compete in a single tournament I entered. 2018 can't come soon enough.
