Moving to the Senior Tee
Updated: 11/20/2008 5:02:00 PM
I'm 63 and feel it's time to move to the senior tees. I'm hesitant because its an acknowledgement that I am older and can't hit or putt like I once did.  I usually manage to keep it below 100 from the whites.  Well, I played with my wife this week and played the senior tees.  I shot an 85 and that included three triples ( I can do that from the whites also!).  I didn't feel like I had to work to shot the 85.  Anyone else feeling "father time" creep into their game?

You men have it too easy... We women already have the forward tees... so where do we move when we're older? and don't say to the retirement home, because that's not very nice ;) I think I need a new driver too :)river too :)

WOW ... what a question... something we all are going to face someday.. i say go pick yourself out a new driver! one that hits it long! then play from the ladies tees with your wife! its fun to play togather... when you roll with the men for the day.. play whatever tees they play... Buying the new driver is just a Bonus! but you never know .. you could find out your hitting the ball just fine with the perfect club. we all know you guys can all put like Phil so dont cry to me about distance... i have baught a few sammiches from hustlers like yourself because we all know its all about the shortgame... cant fool me MrD... and great days on the course... togather... when you roll with the men for the day.. play whatever tees they play... There was an article by Stina in Golf Digest a few months ago about what's the ideal course length for a player:

"A reader once sent me this formula to calculate a player's ideal course yardage, and I love it: Multiply the average distance you hit your 27-degree club (typically your 5-iron) by 36; the total you get is a good distance for you to play from in yards. I hit my 5-iron about 145 yards these days (a brutal but honest assessment), which means my ideal tee yardage is 5,220. I realize that I have a lot more fun playing from a yardage that allows me to hit short irons into a few greens, just as the guys I play with can."

It looks like a good rule... I average about the same distance as her with my 5-hybrid and my home course is roughly 5,200 yards long from the red tees, so it's just perfect.I love it: Multiply the average distance you hit your 27-degree club (typically your 5-iron) by 36; the total you get is a good distance for you to play from in yards. Brisbolf has it right. There is not "senior" or "ladies" or "pro" tees. They are there to use according to ability. Use what suits you and have fun!

I don't like labeling the tees with names, ladies, seniors, mens, etc. I tell my students to play from the set of tees that suites their game. I have men that play from the reds, and ladies that play from the whites. Pick a set of tees that fits your game and enjoy.from the whites. Pick a set of tees that fits your game and enjoy.
